Communication Ministry of the Spirit It begins from birth. The child begins to convey what they want and need, while parents attempt to respond with their own expressions of love, understanding and care. The ability to effectively communicate in this world is the most essential skill that is learned. Our very survival depends on how well we understand warnings, directions and instruction, while fulfillment of purpose is in need of getting others to understand and respond to our thoughts and creativity. Relationships and careers are largely impacted by the accurate giving and receiving of expressed thoughts. Whenever there is a breakdown in communication, it can be most helpful to obtain the assistance of a mediator or even a translator. Their skill can bring life to what might have seemed to be a hopeless venture. With a clear understanding of both sides, the needed information can be made equally clear and enable significant progress. With entrance into the kingdom of God, there is also a great need for help in the realm of communication. This realm of the Spirit is dominated by the power of communication. Creation required the sound of God’s voice clearly communicating His vision. Our acceptance of Jesus as Lord occurs with our expressed confession of Him as Savior. What we declare is filled with mountain moving power like that of our Father. We can either impart life or death in an endless amount of ways by simply what comes out of our mouths. There can be continual growth both in our ability to receive from the heart of the Father, and for us to impart our heart to Him in return. However, any effective progress between us and the Father will always be facilitated by the Holy Spirit as the One who actually gets the thoughts across. The Spirit’s ministry makes possible this communication and its influence in and through our lives. Words of life can be both received and imparted with eternal effect where there is help from the Holy Spirit. Notes Ministry of the Spirit – Communication Communication – the successful transfer of thought until its full intent may be understood and applied. When getting it right is a passion, there is great reward in life. Proverbs 18:21 (NIV) 21 The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit. But – not right without the Spirit. It is impossible to keep the mouth from being destructive apart from the Spirit’s help. James 3:6-9 (NIV) 6 The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole body, sets the whole course of one's life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell. 7 All kinds of animals, birds, reptiles and sea creatures are being tamed and have been tamed by mankind, 8 but no human being can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison. 9 With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse human beings, who have been made in God's likeness. Why? – The mouth will produce from its spirit’s store. Luke 6:45 (NIV) 45 A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of. Every word is valued as heart communication and judged as such. Matthew 12:36-37 (NIV) 36 But I tell you that everyone will have to give account on the day of judgment for every empty word they have spoken. 37 For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned." Jesus’ solution – fill the store with the Spirit. Reception precedes production. John 7:38-39 (NIV) 38 Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them." 39 By this he meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were later to receive. Up to that time the Spirit had not been given, since Jesus had not yet been glorified. Even Jesus’ words required the Spirit to produce faith/belief. John 6:63-64 (NIV) 63 The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you—they are full of the Spirit and life. 64 Yet there are some of you who do not believe." Reception of truth from the heart of the Father comes with reception of His Spirit. John 16:13-15 (NIV) 13 But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. 14 He will glorify me because it is from me that he will receive what he will make known to you. 15 All that belongs to the Father is mine. That is why I said the Spirit will receive from me what he will make known to you." Reception of the Spirit – subsequent to initial salvation. Acts 19:1-2 (NIV) 1 While Apollos was at Corinth, Paul took the road through the interior and arrived at Ephesus. There he found some disciples 2 and asked them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?” They answered, "No, we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit." Acts 19:6 (NIV) 6 When Paul placed his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they spoke in tongues and prophesied. To receive from God – must have the Spirit’s ministry. 1 Corinthians 2:13-14 (NIV) 13 This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, explaining spiritual realities with Spirit-taught words. 14 The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness, and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit. Communication in the Spirit requires the ministry of the Spirit. Romans 8:26-27 (NIV) 26 In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. 27 And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God's people in accordance with the will of God. In Spirit communication, not just information, but power demonstration. 1 Corinthians 2:4-5 (NIV) 4 My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit's power, 5 so that your faith might not rest on human wisdom, but on God's power. Through the hearts/mouths of His people, God will communicate/demonstrate His will to a world that will fear and turn to Him. Isaiah 59:19-21 (NIV) 19 From the west, people will fear the name of the LORD, and from the rising of the sun, they will revere his glory. For he will come like a pent-up flood that the breath of the LORD drives along. 20 “The Redeemer will come to Zion, to those in Jacob who repent of their sins,” declares the LORD. 21 “As for me, this is my covenant with them,” says the LORD. “My Spirit, who is on you, will not depart from you, and my words that I have put in your mouth will always be on your lips, on the lips of your children and on the lips of their descendants—from this time on and forever,” says the LORD. Overview – Spirit’s Communication Ministry Communication – the successful transfer of thought until its full intent may be understood and applied. Communication received and shared is necessary for life. With God there is no reception of giving apart from the Spirit’s help. With reception of the Spirit there is filling of the spirit’s store with heavenly treasure. The Spirit reveals truth from the heart of the Father. We are enabled to effectively communicate life by the Spirit’s ministry. Prayer: “I come to Your throne of grace now with confidence and boldness by the blood of Jesus to obtain the help that I need from Your Spirit. Flood my heart with revelation light and fill me to overflowing with rivers of living water. As I receive from the treasure of Your heart, enable words of life to flow freely from my mouth for Your purpose and glory.” Action: Approach times in the Word and in prayer with expectancy of receiving supernaturally by the Spirit. Document and store up revelation received as a treasure from the Father’s heart. From the Spirit’s store within let every word bring revelation of that righteousness within. Rise in the power of the Spirit’s communication to overcome in every situation. Declaration: “The hunger and thirst of my heart is for the things that only the Spirit can provide. The things of the world that used to gratify are nothing compared to the life that is revealed to me by the Spirit. I effectively receive revelation and understanding from the heart of God and am growing in effective communication of this life with the Spirit’s help.”
