The Works of God In junior high my classmates and I got to pay a visit to a trailer parked outside of the school. The reason for our visit was the discovery of our aptitude, that thing we were uniquely inclined towards that we could begin preparation for. There was this apparent understanding that you will do best what you are created for. A writer will write. A musician will play. The leader will lead. If that’s what you are, then that’s what you do. This would appear to be a characteristic of our nation that has enabled so very many to realize their potential. There has been a freedom here to do whatever it is you do, regardless of appearance. When what you do is restricted by a group into which you’re placed, there is no longer freedom to fulfill what you were really made to do. While there is something for each of us to develop in our ability to do, there is One who is completely unlimited in doing what He does. Our Father God does what no one else can even imagine. His works are those that are impossible to any other. Though barriers may be placed upon us in doing what we would do, there is nothing that will keep our God from doing what He does. The way He does what He does, however, is through His children, those who have chosen to commit completely to His Spirit’s direction. As mighty and powerful as He is, and as surely as He will do what He does, He has chosen to do so through those who have chosen to be vessels fully overflowing with His Spirit. As we walk in Him with believing hearts, His powerful works are done through us, bringing salvation and restoration as it cannot be found elsewhere. The works that will magnify and produce belief in Him are the works He has sent us to do. As His children, it’s just what we do now – His works. Notes Mark 16:17-18 (NKJV) 17 And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; 18 they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover." What does God do? The impossible. Indifference and arrogance are lost when God does what He does. 1 Kings 18:24 (NLT) 24 Then call on the name of your god, and I will call on the name of the LORD. The god who answers by setting fire to the wood is the true God!” And all the people agreed. How does He do what He does – the impossible? Through those fully committed. 2 Chronicles 16:9 (NLT) 9 The eyes of the LORD search the whole earth in order to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him. In Jesus – a heart filled with the Spirit to do the Father’s work. Luke 4:18 (NKJV) 18 "THE SPIRIT OF THE LORD IS UPON ME, BECAUSE HE HAS ANOINTED ME TO PREACH THE GOSPEL TO THE POOR; HE HAS SENT ME TO HEAL THE BROKENHEARTED, TO PROCLAIM LIBERTY TO THE CAPTIVES AND RECOVERY OF SIGHT TO THE BLIND, TO SET AT LIBERTY THOSE WHO ARE OPPRESSED; Wherever Jesus went – good works. Acts 10:38 (NKJV) 38 how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him. Everything about Christ was the inclusion of us. John 9:4 (TPT) 4 While I am with you, it is daytime and we must do the works of God who sent me while the light shines. For there is coming a dark night when no one will be able to work. As Jesus was sent to work, so are we sent, with the same support. John 20:21-22 (NKJV) 21 So Jesus said to them again, “Peace to you! As the Father has sent Me, I also send you.” 22 And when He had said this, He breathed on them, and said to them, "Receive the Holy Spirit. God’s work- Matthew 10:8 (NKJV) 8 Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out demons. Freely you have received, freely give. No limits of the impossible John 14:12 (NKJV) 12 "Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father. Requirement of the Holy Spirit. Acts 1:8 (NKJV) 8 But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth." Necessity of grace’s instruction in righteousness. Titus 2:11-14 (NKJV) 11 For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, 12 teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age, 13 looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, 14 who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works. Life’s purpose/vision changed. Ephesians 2:10 (NKJV) 10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them. Overview: What does God do? – The Impossible. How does He work? – Through hearts committed and full of the Spirit. Where does He work? – Everywhere we go – an opportunity for good. Prayer: “I am so grateful for the work You have begun in me and how You are completing it so amazingly. Because of Your goodness I have been delivered from the bondage of sin and freed to fulfill all You’ve made for me to do. Fill me with Your Spirit as I commit my heart completely to You for the works You desire to touch others with through me. Work Your works in me.” Action: In beholding the Father through His Word and in the Spirit, allow that image to change how you see yourself and what you do. Take possession of the power You’ve been given in Christ to do the works of God in touching those around you with good. Consecrate your heart and life before God to enable the fullness of the Spirit’s power upon you. Let every step become an opportunity for a demonstrated work of God. Declarations: Everything about me was transformed when I became a new creation in Christ. What I do has been made new to include the powerful works of my Father God. Wherever I go I see those in need as opportunities for God’s working through me. His works in me are reason for complete consecration to Him in holiness and the Spirit’s filling. My life is fulfilled in allowing what God does to be experienced through me.
