One In Spirit An army, sports team, business, or any organization may have all the necessary resources and support, but they will be rendered ineffective without a common spirit that drives them to excellence in overcoming the opposition. It’s not enough to come up with orders, plays and strategies, without a common will to work as a unit in accomplishing a single purpose, there may be some impressive individual capabilities, but no real achievements together as a group. This is why there are “spirit weeks”, pep rallies, inspiring speeches, and awards. The unity in spirit will take an abundance of potential over the line to triumph. This overcoming spirit is caught in the words of belief in a common goal, and is the essential element in any endeavor. In establishing the church that is the body of Christ, God has provided us with everything we need for life and Godliness. We have more than enough to overcome in every situation and actually show the world what true excellence looks like. In Him we are made to be not just overcomers, but more-than-overcomers. However, it’s not enough to just have all this given to us if we don’t have the common Spirit that will enable its provision to overwhelm any adversary. Thankfully, the same Spirit that raised Christ from the grave has been given us to take us over the line in victory. Like David in Psalm 116, though, that spirit of faith requires a voice. It’s in the speaking of the common words of life and taking authority over the evil one together that we are connected against a common foe. It’s not just belief that activates this Spirit, but the speaking of that belief. With every Word of life spoken is the release of a unifying undefeated Spirit. Notes It's in the hearing of God’s works that spirits both soar and melt. Joshua 5:1 1 So it was, when all the kings of the Amorites who were on the west side of the Jordan, and all the kings of the Canaanites who were by the sea, heard that the LORD had dried up the waters of the Jordan from before the children of Israel until we had crossed over, that their heart melted; and there was no spirit in them any longer because of the children of Israel. When the flesh is challenged, can connect with the same Spirit as David’s by what is spoken. 2 Corinthians 4:13-14 13 And since we have the same spirit of faith, according to what is written, “I BELIEVED AND THEREFORE I SPOKE,” we also believe and therefore speak, 14 knowing that He who raised up the Lord Jesus will also raise us up with Jesus, and will present us with you. There is no connecting Spirit without a connecting voice. Genesis 1:2-3 2 The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. 3 Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light. Not possible to have an individual connection – the Spirit memborizes 1 Corinthians 12:12-14 12 For as the body is one and has many members, but all the members of that one body, being many, are one body, so also is Christ. 13 For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free—and have all been made to drink into one Spirit. 14 For in fact the body is not one member but many. Ephesians 2:14 14 For He Himself is our peace, who has made both one, and has broken down the middle wall of separation, Unity in the spirit is necessary for the move of the Spirit. Psalm 133:1-3 NIV [1] How good and pleasant it is when God's people live together in unity! [2] It is like precious oil poured on the head, running down on the beard, running down on Aaron's beard, down on the collar of his robe. [3] It is as if the dew of Hermon were falling on Mount Zion. For there the Lord bestows his blessing, even life forevermore. Unity is key to the supernatural. ACTS 4:23–24, 29–31 23 And being let go, they went to their own company, and reported all that the chief priests and elders had said unto them. 24 And when they heard that, they lifted up their voice to God with one accord. . . . 29 And now, Lord, behold their threatening: and grant unto thy servants, that with all boldness they may speak thy Word, 30 By stretching forth thine hand to heal; and that signs and wonders may be done by the name of thy holy child Jesus. 31 And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the Word of God with boldness. The Spirit on and in connects us as a standard by our unified voice. Isaiah 59:19-21 19 So shall they fear The name of the LORD from the west, And His glory from the rising of the sun; When the enemy comes in like a flood, The Spirit of the LORD will lift up a standard against him. 20 “The Redeemer will come to Zion, And to those who turn from transgression in Jacob,” Says the LORD. 21 "As for Me," says the LORD, “this is My covenant with them: My Spirit who is upon you, and My words which I have put in your mouth, shall not depart from your mouth, nor from the mouth of your descendants, nor from the mouth of your descendants' descendants,” says the LORD, "from this time and forevermore."
