Believing the Unbelievable Almost anything is believable, especially in this day of technology explosion, where everything you could imagine and way more already exists. As people are experiencing and doing things that could never have been just a few short years ago, the “unbelievable” list is reducing in number. You can talk to someone on the other side of the world face to face while driving in an electric car and deciding to be whatever form of creature you want to be at that particular point in time. Many of these things are now believable because they are personally utilized and experienced, while others remain in an assumed imaginary state that is not necessarily based in reality. There are some things, though, that occupy a realm that, for some, is yet unbelievable apart from a spiritual perception. Things like love, mercy, heaven, hell, God and satan require a revelation of the heart in order to be effectively applied. When Jesus began ministering healing and miracles, for many there was a very real experience of what they could not have otherwise believed. Many of the religious leaders, while forced to believe in the undeniably seeing blind, walking lame, and living dead, were still kept from believing that Jesus could be the Son of God. For Him, it became undeniable guilt that He could claim unity with the Great I Am. Though validated in innumerable ways, the reality of His statements was only objectionable and repulsive to them and dangerously unbelievable. What they really couldn’t fathom, though, was that this union with the Father was not just something that Jesus would claim, but also each of those who would receive new birth into eternal life. This would be His real purpose in coming, not to just claim deity and die for us, but to raise to new life all who would identify with Him simply through belief. Beyond believing in Jesus alone, there is yet an entrance into His fulfilled purpose through a progressive and unending revelation of our own identity with Him – something totally unbelievable apart from Spirit-enabled faith. Oh, with each discovery, though, is wonderful liberation from worldly limitations to the great expanse of the eternal, where all things are possible. This was the unbelievable – Jesus’ identity Luke 22:70-71 (NKJV) 70 Then they all said, “Are You then the Son of God?” So He said to them, "You rightly say that I am." 71 And they said, “What further testimony do we need? For we have heard it ourselves from His own mouth.” Not just ability, but identity John 3:3-8 (NKJV) 3 Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” 4 Nicodemus said to Him, "How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother's womb and be born?" It’s on the revelation of identity that the church is built Matthew 16:15-16 (NKJV) 15 He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” 16 Simon Peter answered and said, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God." This, more than any other, is the most necessary belief in the unbelievable John 17:23 (NKJV) 23 I in them, and You in Me; that they may be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that You have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me. As He is, so are we 1 John 4:17 (NKJV) 17 Love has been perfected among us in this: that we may have boldness in the day of judgment; because as He is, so are we in this world. Life for the believer is actually Christ living Galatians 2:20 (NKJV) 20 I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me. It’s now identity, but fulfilled purpose Romans 6:4 (TLB) 4 Your old sin-loving nature was buried with him by baptism when he died; and when God the Father, with glorious power, brought him back to life again, you were given his wonderful new life to enjoy. Already complete in Him Colossians 2:9-10 (NKJV) 9 For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily; 10 and you are complete in Him, who is the head of all principality and power. Though much yet to see, reality of identity is now. 1 John 3:1-2 (NKJV) 1 Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God! Therefore the world does not know us, because it did not know Him. 2 Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is. Overview: Many things once unbelievable have been believed as they have been seen and experienced. The most powerful of unbelievables is that of identity – when accepted enables all of life. The unbelievable that was most grievous of Jesus was His claim to unity with the Father as a Son. This revelation, not just of Jesus, but of us in Him is what the church is based on. When born again in Him we are made complete in identity with Him. There is unending revelation of this reality that provides for greater evidence in its increased belief. Prayer: Thank You, Father, for making new life and its identity available to me in Christ. I am grateful for life in You that is completely provided for with possibilities. As I submit to Your presence now, let there be an increase of Jesus’ identity in me and the world around me for Your glory. Declarations: I acknowledge and believe in the God of Creation who does way more than I can imagine. By believing and receiving Christ as my Savior I have become one with Him in nature and ability. What I am able to do is no longer limited by a sinful nature. All things are possible to me as I take on the identity of what was one time unimaginable – unity with God.
