The Way

The Way

There was a time when fixing your car, an appliance, or some other issue was resolved in a couple of ways – either using the services of a specialist or ordering a repair manual and attempting to do it yourself. Today the options are similar, although the DIY approach has been greatly enhanced by the use of online videos and readily downloadable manuals. Parts can be ordered overnight and returned if not the right fit. The accessibility of information and resources has increased the tendency to just “find the way” to do something yourself. This has also become the trend for all pursuits in relationships, politics, health, business, etc. There is ever a post on the “way” to a desired goal or solution, the assumption being that the right way is subject to circumstances and individual perspectives. The right “way” is sort of a DIY matter that can be found with a simple search.

For many of the practical matters of life, the way may be at the fingertips, but for matters of the heart in the light of eternity, the “way” is not information to be found in a search. It’s only found in a Person who can be known as a constant companion. This “way” will also not just be a momentary resolution, but He will be integrated into every movement and thought of life. Jesus is this Way and choosing Him is following Him also as the Truth, living, moving, and breathing Him in all of Life. There will always be an unending stream of postable quotes from philosophers and brainiacs for those in search of answers, but none of those thoughts will provide the Way that is only found in Him, living continually in the worship of Him. He is the Truth and any legitimate thought of truth will have originated in Him. Any life of fulfillment and purpose for now and eternity will be in Him alone. He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life.

Notes

The Way – Becoming one

John 14:6-7 (NLT) 6 Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me. 7 If you had really known me, you would know who my Father is. From now on, you do know him and have seen him!”

Source of Truth - inside

John 14:16-17 (NLT) 16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, who will never leave you. 17 He is the Holy Spirit, who leads into all truth. The world cannot receive him, because it isn’t looking for him and doesn’t recognize him. But you know him, because he lives with you now and later will be in you.

The Guide for the Way

John 16:13 (NLT) 13 When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own but will tell you what he has heard. He will tell you about the future.

Jesus’ prayer - one

John 17:22-23 (NLT) 22 “I have given them the glory you gave me, so they may be one as we are one. 23 I am in them and you are in me. May they experience such perfect unity that the world will know that you sent me and that you love them as much as you love me.

The effect of an encounter

Acts 4:13 (TLB) 13 When the Council saw the boldness of Peter and John and could see that they were obviously uneducated non-professionals, they were amazed and realized what being with Jesus had done for them!

The Way – complete in us

Colossians 2:9-10 (NLT) 9 For in Christ lives all the fullness of God in a human body. 10 So you also are complete through your union with Christ, who is the head over every ruler and authority.

To know us – will know the Way

2 Peter 1:4 (Weymouth) 4 It is by means of these that He has granted us His precious and wondrous promises, in order that through them you may, one and all, become sharers in the very nature of God, having completely escaped the corruption which exists in the world through earthly cravings.

What is the Way?

1 John 4:16-17 (NKJV) 16 And we have known and believed the love that God has for us. God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God in him. 17 Love has been perfected among us in this: that we may have boldness in the day of judgment; because as He is, so are we in this world.

Overview:

  • While there are solutions to be found for many things in information, the Way to truth and life can only be found in an encounter with Christ.
  • When you encounter Him you are taken to an experience with the Father.
  • We have been given the gift of God’s Spirit to be a constant presence on the inside.
  • His presence inside guides us in the Way of Truth in a Life that is complete in Him.
  • Through us, the world is shown the Way to the Father by the power of the Spirit in love.

Prayer:

Father, I desire to know and be known by You in every moment of my life. Empower me to show the way to You through our union by the Spirit. May Your love be known and received because I’ve lived this way You’ve provided in Christ.
