Wise/Fool from Words/Heart

How words form the “wise” vs “fool” identity

  • Words spoken have a source
  • When heard/spoken, they input and affect the heart with identity
  • As the heart’s expression, words reflect their input source
  • All actions become demonstrations of the heart’s word-affected identity
  • Fear of God isolates Him as the hearing/speaking source for the wise
  • Fear of the world turns from God as the hearing/speaking source for the fool

Filling the heart:

Those devouring godly info – wise vs trashy info - fool

Proverbs 15:14 (NLT) 14 A wise person is hungry for knowledge, while the fool feeds on trash.

Inputting corrective words - wise

Proverbs 15:31 (NLT) 31 If you listen to constructive criticism, you will be at home among the wise.

Words fill the heart

Proverbs 2:10 (NLT) 10 For wisdom will enter your heart, and knowledge will fill you with joy.

The heart’s storage determines its protection

Psalms 119:11 (TLB) 11 I have thought much about your words and stored them in my heart so that they would hold me back from sin.

Ungodly/sinners/scornful input vs the Word of God

Psalms 1:1-2 (NKJV) 1 Blessed is the man Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor stands in the path of sinners, Nor sits in the seat of the scornful; 2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD, And in His law he meditates day and night.

The heart produces what has filled and formed it.:

From good storage – good identity and production

Luke 6:45 (NKJV) 45 A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.

From the storage a heart produces words of the wise

Proverbs 16:23 (NKJV) 23 The heart of the wise teaches his mouth, And adds learning to his lips.

Words reveal the heart’s identity

Ecclesiastes 10:12 (NKJV) 12 The words of a wise man's mouth are gracious, But the lips of a fool shall swallow him up;

Words from the heart of the wise are enticing – the fool not so much.

Proverbs 15:2 (NLT) 2 The tongue of the wise makes knowledge appealing, but the mouth of a fool belches out foolishness.

The heart filled with wise words provides them, the fool’s has nothing

Proverbs 15:7 (NLT) 7 The lips of the wise give good advice; the heart of a fool has none to give.

Critical – Determining and guarding the heart’s word-source

Deciding and protecting the source of heart input affects all of life.

Proverbs 4:23 (NLT) 23 Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.

Turning to God as the Source is the first step

Psalms 111:10 (NKJV) 10 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom; A good understanding have all those who do His commandments. His praise endures forever.

Cannot become wise apart from the Word of the Lord

Proverbs 1:7 (NLT) 7 Fear of the LORD is the foundation of true knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline.

With the input of the Gospel, the heart produces a salvation-receiving confession

Romans 10:8-10 (NKJV) 8 But what does it say? “THE WORD IS NEAR YOU, IN YOUR MOUTH AND IN YOUR HEART” (that is, the word of faith which we preach): 9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

By speaking the Word exclusively, a wise identity is formed for all of life.

Joshua 1:8 (NKJV) 8 This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.

Anyone can become wise with the right choice of Source

James 1:5 (NKJV) 5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.

God’s wisdom vs the world’s – His words make wise the simple who believe/speak them

1 Corinthians 1:19-25 (NLT) 19 As the Scriptures say, “I will destroy the wisdom of the wise and discard the intelligence of the intelligent.” 20 So where does this leave the philosophers, the scholars, and the world’s brilliant debaters? God has made the wisdom of this world look foolish. 21 Since God in his wisdom saw to it that the world would never know him through human wisdom, he has used our foolish preaching to save those who believe. 22 It is foolish to the Jews, who ask for signs from heaven. And it is foolish to the Greeks, who seek human wisdom. 23 So when we preach that Christ was crucified, the Jews are offended and the Gentiles say it’s all nonsense. 24 But to those called by God to salvation, both Jews and Gentiles, Christ is the power of God and the wisdom of God. 25 This foolish plan of God is wiser than the wisest of human plans, and God’s weakness is stronger than the greatest of human strength.

Wisdom’s identifier – peace vs strife

James 3:13-18 (TPT) 13 If you consider yourself to be wise and one who understands the ways of God, advertise it with a beautiful, fruitful life guided by wisdom’s gentleness. Never brag or boast about what you’ve done and you’ll prove that you’re truly wise. 14 But if there is bitter jealousy or competition hiding in your heart, then don’t deny it and try to compensate for it by boasting and being phony. 15 For that has nothing to do with God’s heavenly wisdom but can best be described as the wisdom of this world, both selfish and devilish. 16 So wherever jealousy and selfishness are uncovered, you will also find many troubles and every kind of meanness. 17 But the wisdom from above is always pure, filled with peace, considerate and teachable. It is filled with love and never displays prejudice or hypocrisy in any form 18 and it always bears the beautiful harvest of righteousness! Good seeds of wisdom’s fruit will be planted with peaceful acts by those who cherish making peace.
