Walk By Faith

It is a noble thing to bravely step where you have never gone before. It can also be a very foolish act with dangerous consequences. There are incredible stories of people who, though never having sat in a cockpit before, successfully landed a plane when crisis demanded it. It was brave pioneers who ventured into the unknown lands of the West, making possible the settlement of many who followed.

Yet for the novice and the first-time adventurer alike, there is a common element that transforms reckless risk into purposeful action: guidance from someone who has gone before. Critical information received from a seasoned voice turns blind action into movement based on trust in what has been heard.

The voice on the radio and the instructions in the manual transform gauges, switches, and controls into life-saving instruments. They prevent random movements that merely “feel right” and instead direct deliberate actions that lead to safety. A novice pioneer armed with navigation and survival knowledge—passed down from experienced explorers—has a far greater chance of survival. When that guidance comes from someone who has truly been there, confidence rises even more.

Such information turns blind steps taken in darkness into steps of faith rooted in reliable truth. But those steps must faithfully follow what has been given, not wander into what merely seems reasonable.

From the moment of new birth in Christ, every step taken toward Him and in following Him leads beyond what can be naturally assumed. Simply stepping into what appears right according to human wisdom is not the faith that leads to salvation. Thankfully, we have been given a trustworthy resource that grants bold confidence in situations that might otherwise be precarious or foolhardy.

When our actions become responses to His Word and to the example of His ways, faith awakens with assurance and strength. Abraham stepped out without knowing where he was going. Noah began building a vessel the world had never seen. What enabled them? The same divine Resource we have today—the voice of the One who knows the end from the beginning.

Because their steps were ordered by God, they could lay aside hesitation and defy what their natural eyes told them. They went where His voice led.

Each of us receives a personal invitation to follow our Savior into the unknown. Yet this is not a reckless journey. It is a walk guided by the One who has gone before us and continues to provide direction. Rather than leaning on our own understanding, the life of the New Creation is not random or uncertain.

It is a walk of faith—bold, confident steps aligned with what He has spoken. When we refuse to rely on what merely seems right, and instead follow what He declares to be right, each step leads toward the triumph of eternal life.

Notes

With every encounter with Jesus, where sensitivity to the influence of the world is replaced by awareness of Him, comes an invitation to walk with Him.

The Walk

Romans 6:4 (NKJV) 4 Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

The walk of following Christ:

  1. In the Spirit
  2. By Faith
  3. In Love
  4. On the Enemy

Walking in the Spirit

  • Hearing/Consuming God’s Word
  • Continual Prayer
  • Prompt Obedience

Walk By Faith

  1. Into the unknown
  2. Armed with the Word
  3. Strengthened by the Spirit
  4. Enduring all adversity
  5. Fixed on Eternity

1. Into the Unknown

Proverbs 14:12 (NLT) 12 There is a path before each person that seems right, but it ends in death. 2 Corinthians 5:7 (NKJV) 7 For we walk by faith, not by sight. 1 Peter 1:8 (TLB) 8 You love him even though you have never seen him; though not seeing him, you trust him; and even now you are happy with the inexpressible joy that comes from heaven itself. Hebrews 11:8 (NKJV) 8 By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to the place which he would receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going.

2. Stepping according to the Word

Psalms 119:130 (NKJV) 130 The entrance of Your words gives light; It gives understanding to the simple.

Psalms 119:133 (NLT) 133 Guide my steps by your word, so I will not be overcome by evil.

Matthew 4:4 (NLT) 4 But Jesus told him, “No! The Scriptures say, ‘People do not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”

Matthew 7:24 (NLT) 24 “Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock.

John 5:30 (TPT) 30 “Nothing I do is from my own initiative, for as I hear the judgment passed by my Father, I execute judgment. And my judgments will be perfect, because I can do nothing on my own, except to fulfill the desires of my Father who sent me.

3. Strengthened by the Spirit

Ephesians 6:10 (TPT) 10 Now my beloved ones, I have saved these most important truths for last: Be supernaturally infused with strength through your life-union with the Lord Jesus. Stand victorious with the force of his explosive power flowing in and through you.

Jude 1:20 (TLB) 20 But you, dear friends, must build up your lives ever more strongly upon the foundation of our holy faith, learning to pray in the power and strength of the Holy Spirit.

4. Enduring all adversity

Hebrews 11:27 (NKJV) 27 By faith he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king; for he endured as seeing Him who is invisible.

James 1:3 says the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Faith tested is faith strengthened.

James 1:2-3 (TPT) 2 My fellow believers, when it seems as though you are facing nothing but difficulties see it as an invaluable opportunity to experience the greatest joy that you can! 3 For you know that when your faith is tested it stirs up power within you to endure all things.

Mark 13:13 (NLT) 13 And everyone will hate you because you are my followers. But the one who endures to the end will be saved.

5. Fixed on Eternity

Sight focuses on:

  • Today’s pain
  • Today’s lack
  • Today’s o*position

Faith focuses on:

  • Eternal glory
  • God’s purpose
  • Future promise

2 Corinthians 4:18 (TLB) 18 So we do not look at what we can see right now, the troubles all around us, but we look forward to the joys in heaven which we have not yet seen. The troubles will soon be over, but the joys to come will last forever.

2Co 5:1-10 (TPT) 1 We are convinced that even if these bodies we live in are folded up at death like tents, we will still have a God-built home that no human hands have built, which will last forever in the heavenly realm. 2 We inwardly sigh as we live in these physical “tents,” longing to put on a new body for our life in heaven, 3 in the belief that once we put on our new “clothing” we won’t find ourselves “naked.” 4 So, while living in this “tent,” we groan under its burden, not because we want to die but because we want these new bodies. We crave for all that is mortal to be swallowed up by eternal life. 5 And this is no empty hope, for God himself is the one who has prepared us for this wonderful destiny. And to confirm this promise, he has given us the Holy Spirit, like an engagement ring, as a guarantee. 6 That’s why we’re always full of courage. Even while we’re at home in the body, we’re homesick to be with the Master— 7 for we live by faith, not by what we see with our eyes. 8 We live with a joyful confidence, yet at the same time we take delight in the thought of leaving our bodies behind to be at home with the Lord. 9 So whether we live or die we make it our life’s passion to live our lives pleasing to him. 10 For one day we will all be openly revealed before Christ on his throne so that each of us will be duly recompensed for our actions done in life, whether good or worthless.

The faith walk is eternity-driven, not moment-driven.

Prayer

Father, Thank You for inviting me into the walk of newness of life. I renounce walking by sight, by feeling, or by human reasoning alone. Teach me to walk in the Spirit — to hear Your voice, to treasure Your Word, and to obey promptly. Strengthen me by Your Spirit. Anchor my eyes on eternity when temporary pressures attempt to distract me. Let my steps be ordered by You. Let my obedience reflect trust. Let my endurance testify to faith. I choose to follow You into the unknown, confident that You have gone before me and that Your Word lights my path. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
