Walk On

In a war between opposing nations, rockets may be launched and bombs dropped, severely damaging the enemy. Yet full triumph cannot be claimed until there are boots on the ground. Only when the territory once controlled and dictated by the foe is walked upon and fully occupied does their authority and rule become irrelevant. Merely knowing that your forces are superior—or even firing a few strikes—is not enough. Until the enemy’s dominion is personally tread upon, there is still ground to be taken.

When Jesus rose victoriously from the grave, we rose with Him to walk in the all-authority that had been given to Him. However, it is not enough for us simply to possess this authority. In Matthew 28, Jesus indicated that this authority becomes effective through going—through treading upon the enemy’s ground. The serpents and scorpions that might hinder or threaten us along the way should not deter us in the least; by stepping on them, we take possession of the territory they once claimed.

However, there is a crucial phrase in Jesus’ directive to walk in His authority: “I will be with you.” We cannot step upon the enemy in our own strength or apart from full surrender to His will and His ways. It is only as we live, move, and have our being in Him that any step against our foes becomes possible. It is His power working within us that transforms us into conquering treaders. As our testimony proclaims the power of the Blood—His delivering and saving grace—no force can hinder our advance or prevent us from walking out and possessing the Promise.

Notes

The walk

Rom 6:4 (NKJV) 4 Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

  • Walk in the Spirit
  • Walk by Faith
  • Walk in Love
  • Walk on Enemies

Instead of being hindered, you will step upon

Psa 91:11-13 (TPT) 11 God sends angels with special orders to protect you wherever you go, defending you from all harm. 12 If you walk into a trap, they’ll be there for you and keep you from stumbling. 13 You’ll even walk unharmed among the fiercest powers of darkness, trampling every one of them beneath your feet!

What the enemy meant for evil, God uses to promote when stepped upon

Gen 50:20 (NLT) 20 You intended to harm me, but God intended it all for good. He brought me to this position so I could save the lives of many people.

Israel had the ability, but it wasn’t until they tread that they obtained

Jos 1:2-4 (NLT) 2 “Moses my servant is dead. Therefore, the time has come for you to lead these people, the Israelites, across the Jordan River into the land I am giving them. 3 I promise you what I promised Moses: ‘Wherever you set foot, you will be on land I have given you— 4 from the Negev wilderness in the south to the Lebanon mountains in the north, from the Euphrates River in the east to the Mediterranean Sea in the west, including all the land of the Hittites.’

What does treading on our enemies look like in Christ?

Supreme domination comes from a revelation of belonging.

Luk 10:18-20 (TPT) 18 Jesus replied, “While you were ministering, I watched Satan topple until he fell suddenly from heaven like lightning to the ground. 19 Now you understand that I have imparted to you all my authority to trample over his kingdom. You will trample upon every demon before you and overcome every power Satan possesses. Absolutely nothing will be able to harm you as you walk in this authority. 20 However, your real source of joy isn’t merely that these spirits submit to your authority, but that your names are written in the journals of heaven and that you belong to God’s kingdom. This is the true source of your authority.”

“With” changes tentative tiptoeing into bold treading in declarations

Jhn 15:7 (TPT) 7 But if you live in life-union with me and if my words live powerfully within you—then you can ask whatever you desire and it will be done.

We’ve been made to be “with” Him in heavenly realms

Eph 2:6 (NLT) 6 For he raised us from the dead along with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ Jesus.

Those realms are under our feet through our union

Eph 1:21-23 (TLB) 21 far, far above any other king or ruler or dictator or leader. Yes, his honor is far more glorious than that of anyone else either in this world or in the world to come. 22 And God has put all things under his feet and made him the supreme Head of the Church— 23 which is his body, filled with himself, the Author and Giver of everything everywhere.

The enemy’s territory- the realm of deceit and deception.

The weapons that ensure our walk on the enemy - the Word

2Co 10:4 (NLT) 4 We use God’s mighty weapons, not worldly weapons, to knock down the strongholds of human reasoning and to destroy false arguments.

Stepping is enabled by the authority of the Word

Heb 4:12 (NLT) 12 For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires.

When treading in holiness - steps are God empowered

Rom 16:19-20 (NLT) 19 But everyone knows that you are obedient to the Lord. This makes me very happy. I want you to be wise in doing right and to stay innocent of any wrong. 20 The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet. May the grace of our Lord Jesus be with you.

In Him tribulation becomes something to be joyfully stepped upon

John 16:33 (NKJV) 33 These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world."

Prayer

Father, Thank you for including me when You raised Jeus from the grave. You’ve seated me in heaven far above all the enemies that would inhibit and destroy me, so lead me now to walk in authority upon them. As I remain in You through Your Word, let there be an unwavering confidence to step with boldness as You crush me enemies beneath my feet. Be glorified and victorious over Your enemies in my every stride in new life.
