REFLECTION TEXT: Micah 6:8 Summary: We could easily subtitle this passage, “while living in a broken world.” In Exodus, God formed a people to display His glory. He taught them how to live in community with one another. This section shows us that God is concerned with how we relate to one another in day-to-day life. God calls us to holiness, integrity, mercy, justice, and fairness in the ordinariness of life. PASSAGE: Exodus 21 - 22:20 REMEMBER This is a different historical culture. This is a different redemptive moment. The Covenant confirmed in Exodus 24 is not the covenant under which we live. God’s character is revealed in His law, and this makes these laws relevant. We should seek to learn what these laws mean, then make responsible, Christ-centered, new covenant application. 1. GOD THE VULNERABLE Laws concerning SLAVES (Exodus 21:1-11) 2. GOD RIGHTEOUS CONDUCT Laws concerning BEHAVIOR (Exodus 21:12-32) 3. GOD FOR THE WRONGED Laws concerning RESTITUTION (Exodus 21:33 - 22:15) 4. GOD HIS PEOPLE TO PURITY & HOLINESS Laws concerning Holiness (Exodus 22:16-20) “God wants us to apply our hearts to the task of wisdom.” Micah 6:8 He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?
