SERIES: counterCULTURE - The Sermon on the Mount

After laying out the beatitudes of the Kingdom, Jesus points his disciples to faithfully live out this transforming power - calling us to be SALT and LIGHT - meant to be experienced and seen in a decaying and dark world.

REFLECTION Ephesians 5:8-10

Salt: Preservative. Condiment.

1. BE SALT IN A WORLD OF ! Matthew 5:13

  • Actively seek to prevent decay and around us!

Note: John 16:33, 2 Timothy 1-5, 2 Peter 3:3

  • Actively the world around us!

2. BE LIGHT IN A WORLD OF ! Matthew 5:14-16

See John 8:12

Light points to: revelation, instruction, hope, joy, righteousness, and salvation!

  • LIKE A CITY ON A HILL, LIGHT DARKNESS!

Matthew 5:15

  • LIKE A LAMP IN A HOUSE, LIGHT DARKNESS AND REVEALS TRUTH!

See John 3:16-21

Jesus says, YOU ARE THE SALT OF THE EARTH! YOU ARE THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD!

  • AS SALT, we are to have a distinct and favorable taste to us. If we want to reach the world, we can’t be diluted disciples.

  • AS LIGHT, we are to light the path to God by daily lighting up the thousand candles of our good works.
