Motive Matters

Jonah 4

By Pastor Chad A. Miller, November 13, 2022

Text: Jonah 4 God has a way of exposing the motives of hearts - even with great mercy. Jonah is still struggling. God tenderly deals with this sulking servant to show him that He is after his whole heart, not just acts of obedience.

1. JONAH - A Selfish Pray in Anger

Jonah 4:1-4

See Ephesians 4:26-27; Proverbs 27:4.

Anybody can become angry—that is easy. But to be angry with the right person, to the right degree, at the right time, for the right purpose, and in the right way—that is not easy! -Aristotle

Jonah prayed his BEST prayer in the worst place - the fish’s belly, and he prayed his worst prayer in the best place, where God was working in Nineveh. -Wiersbe

See Psalm 139:23-24; Psalm 90:12

2. JONAH - Over Unmet Expectations

Jonah 4:5

3. GOD - Lessons on What Matters Most!

Jonah 4:6-11

James 1:17; 2 Peter 1:3-4

In Jonah's mind, way was best.
