REFLECTION: 1 Corinthians 1:20-25 BENEDICTION: Ephesians 3:17-19 Summary: Not only do we need to have faith, we need faith to “have” us! Our faith grows as we encounter the Word of God and respond in obedience! John has shown us who Jesus really is: The Promised Messiah The Savior of the whole world CONTEXT NOTES: 1. THE GREAT ! John 4:46-47 See Hebrews 4:14-16; Job 5:6-7 2. THE ENCOUNTER! John 4:47-50 He recognizes that Jesus is his only hope. He gets to Jesus. He engages Jesus with His problem. He listens to what Jesus says. What does Jesus say? “you” = plural “seek a sign” 3. GROWING FAITH! John 4:50-53 Jesus Commands. He believes what Jesus Said. He obeys. His faith grows: spark > feeble flame > growing flame > full fire of faith! Doubt sees the obstacles. Faith sees the way. Doubt sees the darkest night. Faith sees the day. Doubt dreads to take a step. Faith soars on high. Doubt questions “Who believes?” Faith answers “I.” (author unknown)
