Better That One Should Die

Summary: John answers the question of why Jesus died both from the perspective of the religious leaders and from God’s perspective. The High Priest’s words are prophetic…without him even knowing. Jesus’s death is BETTER!


The of Jesus Christ is central to the Christian faith. (1 Corinthians 15:1-11; 2:1-5)

PEOPLE TO JESUS!

John 11:45-50

Many ! (John 11:45)

  • they were with others
  • they saw the power of God
  • they believed!

Many Him and didn't want others to believe! (John 11:46)

  • they rejected Him
  • they made trouble for Him
  • they stirred up haters

Many try to Jesus! (John 11:47-48)

“What are we to do?” - an essential quesiton.

Caiaphas has a plan (John 11:50-52)

THE PLOT THICKENS

John 11:50-57

The death of Jesus was not the death of a martyr, it was the revelation of the eternal heart of God. (Oswald Chambers)

God had the death of Jesus. (Acts 2:23)

Someone has to die for the debt of sin.

God sovereignly turned his wicked, blasphemous words into truth. (MacArthur)

What is offered in the Gospel is NOT the hope of salvation is IS SALVATION because of the death of Christ.

WHAT ARE WE TO DO? (Mark 1:15; Ephesians 2:8-9; Romans 10:9-10)

WHO IS COMING WITH YOU? (John 11:45, Acts 1:8)
