The Magic of Finding Jesus

The Magic of Christmas

By Darren Sloniger, December 03, 2023

"Somewhere, something incredible is waiting to be known.” -Carl Sagan

After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi from the east came to Jerusalem and asked, “Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.” (Matthew 2:1-2)

Do I have Clarity about where I’m headed and what I’m following?

  1. When King Herod heard this he was disturbed, and all Jerusalem with him. 4. When he had called together all the people’s chief priests and teachers of the law, he asked them where the Messiah was to be born. 5. “In Bethlehem in Judea,” they replied, “for this is what the prophet has written: 6.“‘But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; for out of you will come a ruler who will shepherd my people Israel.’ 7 Then Herod called the Magi secretly and found out from them the exact time the star had appeared. 8 He sent them to Bethlehem and said, “Go and search carefully for the child. As soon as you find him, report to me, so that I too may go and worship him.” Matthew 2:3-8

…Throw off everything that holds us back and the sin that so easily entangles us. (Hebrews 12:1)

Do I know what holds me back from living the life I want

After they had heard the king, the Magi went on their way, and the star they had seen when it rose went ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the child was. When they saw the star, they were overjoyed. (Matthew 2:9-10)

“they went on their way…and look, the star they had seen before now went ahead of them and led them to the place where Jesus was.”

Throw off everything that holds us back and the sin that so easily entangles us. And then let us run with perseverance the race that is ahead of us (Hebrews 12)

Do I know what drives me forward?

Matthew 2:11 “On coming to the house, they (Magi) saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him.”

Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold and of incense and of myrrh. (Matthew 2:11b)

And having been warned in a dream not to go back to Herod, they returned to their country by another route. (Matthew 2:12)

Throw off everything that holds us back and the sin that so easily entangles us. And then let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us Fixing our eyes on Jesus, the creator and perfecter of our faith (Hebrews 12:2)

Does what I seek in my life have eternal significance?

"Somewhere, something incredible is waiting to be known.”

26 Lift up your eyes and look to the heavens: Who created all these? He who brings out the starry host one by one and calls forth each of them by name. Because of his great power and mighty strength, not one of them is missing. Isaiah 40:26
