The Terroir of your faith… 5 “A farmer went out to sow his seed. As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path; it was trampled on, and the birds ate it up. 6 Some fell on rocky ground, and when it came up, the plants withered because they had no water. 7 Other seed fell among thistle, which grew up with it and choked the plants. 8 Still other seed fell on good soil. It came up and yielded a crop, thirty, sixty or even a hundred times more than was planted.” (Matthew 13) (Jesus said) “This is the meaning of the parable: The seed is the word of God. Those along the path are the ones who hear, and then the evil one comes and deceives them and steals away the word from their hearts, so that they may not believe and be saved. Those on the rocky ground are the ones who immediately receive the word with joy when they hear it, but they have no depth to their faith and so the seeds never take root. They believe for a while, but when trouble comes, their enthusiasm fades and they eventually fall away because there is nothing anchoring them. The seed that fell on ground covered with thistles represents those who hear but they constantly worry about the stuff of life and so they hold on to money and pleasures, they are easily distracted and so over time their faith fades away. However, the seed that is planted on good soil stands for those with good hearts who hold on to the Word of God and grow in their faith and persevere no matter what, sticking with it until the end.
