Call to Worship - Rev. David Bonnema

Leader: We gather together to worship our loving, nurturing God, who, like a mother, knows us intimately.

People: Who loves us unconditionally.

Leader: Who teaches us the way we should go,

People: and comforts us in times of need.

Leader: Praise God,

People: the Source and Sustainer of life!

Opening Hymn - “Be Thou My Vision”

Children’s Message - Bailey Beam

Responsive Reading Leader: Today we lift up examples of women that God used to shape the church.

*People: During the Pentecost we are told that God’s spirit enabled men and women to prophesy about God. *

Leader: “In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams. Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days, and they will prophesy. (Acts 2:17-18)

*People: We remember with fondness Miriam, the sister of Aaron, that God used as a prophet during the Exodus. *

Leader: “Then Miriam the prophet, Aaron’s sister, took a tambourine in her hand, and all the women followed her, with tambourines and dancing. Miriam sang to them: “Sing to the Lord, for he is highly exalted. Both horse and rider he has hurled into the sea.” (Exodus 15:20-21).

People: We remember the judge and the warrior Deborah. She led an army, with God’s help, against the kingdom of Sisera.

Leader: “Now Deborah, a prophet, the wife of Lappidoth, was leading Israel at that time” ….she led Israel into battle, “for the Lord will deliver Sisera into the hands of a woman” (Judges 4:4-9).

*People: We are thankful for these examples in Scripture that inspire all men and women to live badly in faith. *

Apostles Creed

I BELIEVE in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic Church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.*
