Sermon - “Who Do You Say I Am?”

What is one way you can embrace the season of Lent?

Jesus asks his disciples, “Who do you say I am?” Peter answered, “You are God’s .” -Luke 9:20

Jesus is not just a good moral or an example to follow. Jesus is God in the flesh.

Then he said to them all: “Whoever wants to be my must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me.”  -Luke 9:23

What does it mean to deny oneself? It is a matter of priorities. What God wants ,what I want second.

"What good is it for someone to the whole world, and yet their very self?”  -Luke 9:25

What are you going to give your life to?

Prayer of Confession

Loving God, as we begin this season of Lent, we come to You to confess our failures as Your disciples. We often don't think to tell others about You; we forget to invite others to church, and fail to show gratitude for the many blessings You have brought to our lives. We have missed opportunities to learn more about You and grow in our faith. Help us become aware of Your presence in our lives, and give us the desire to grow closer to You in all that we say and do, Amen.

Affirmation of Faith - The Apostles’ Creed

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ, His only son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried. He descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
