Snakes and Doves

40 Days of Discipleship

By Rev. David Bonnema, April 03, 2022

9:30am

Welcome - Rev. Dana Seiler

Opening Songs - “Come Thou Fount” /“Blessed Assurance" - Chalanda Frazier

Children’s Message - Bailey Beam

Sermon - “Snakes and Doves”

We are Jesus’ disciples which means that we get to be Jesus’ representatives in our cities and towns. We are to bring with us a message:

As you go, proclaim this message: ‘The of heaven has come near.’ Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons. Freely you have received; freely give. -Matthew 10:7-8

This is our message— God is here, and your life will change when you awaken to God’s presence.

Do not get any gold or silver or copper to take with you in your belts— no bag for the journey or extra shirt or sandals or a staff, for the worker is his keep. -Matthew 10:9-10

The disciples are instructed to bring the bare minimum of supplies to help them rely on God instead of themselves.

“Therefore be as cunning as and as harmless as .” -Matthew 10:16b

How are disciples to be cunning?

How are disciples to be harmless?

Prayer of Confession

Loving God, we have all fallen short of Your will for us. We have used others for our own purposes, we have spoken hurtful words, we have failed to share Your love with friends and family members and co-workers and neighbors, and especially with those who are different from us. Forgive us, O Lord. Reclaim us and set us aright as we are falling short; and let Your grace enable us to respond to each other with truly amazing gestures of love, in the name of Jesus, Amen.

Doxology

Sacrament of the Lord’s Supper

Affirmation of Faith - The Apostles’ Creed

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ, His only son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried. He descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
