Welcome - Rev. David Bonnema

Opening Songs - Kelly & Will McGlenn - “Overwhelmed”

I see the work of Your Hands Galaxies spin in a Heavenly dance oh God All that You are is so overwhelming

I hear the sound of Your Voice All at once it's a gentle and thundering noise oh God All that You are is so overwhelming

I delight myself in You Captivated by Your beauty I'm overwhelmed, I'm overwhelmed by You

God, I run into Your arms Unashamed because of mercy I'm overwhelmed, I'm overwhelmed by You

I know the power of Your Cross Forgiven and free forever You'll be my God

All that You've done is so overwhelming I delight myself in You In the Glory of Your Presence I'm overwhelmed, I'm overwhelmed by You

God, I run into Your arms Unashamed because of mercy I'm overwhelmed, I'm overwhelmed by You

You are Beautiful, You are Beautiful Oh God, there is no one more Beautiful You are Beautiful, God you are the most Beautiful

You are Wonderful, You are Wonderful Oh God, there is no one more Wonderful You are Wonderful, God You are the most Wonderful

You are Glorious, You are Glorious Oh God, there is no one more Glorious You are Glorious, God you are the most Glorious

I delight myself in you In the Glory of your Presence I'm overwhelmed, I'm overwhelmed by you

And God, I run into your arms Unashamed because of mercy I'm overwhelmed, I'm overwhelmed by you I'm overwhelmed, I'm overwhelmed by you

There is no one more beautiful God, you are the most beautiful

“All of Creation”

Separated until the veil was torn The moment that hope was born And guilt was pardoned once and for all

Captivated but no longer bound by chains Left at an empty grave The sinner and the sacred resolved

And all of creation sing with me now Lift up your voice and lay your burden down And all of creation sing with me now Fill up the heavens let his glory resound

Time has faded and we see him face to face Every doubt erased forever we will worship the king

And all of creation sing with me now Lift up your voice and lay your burden down And all of creation sing with me now Fill up the heavens let his glory resound

The reason we breathe is to sing of his glory And for all he has done praise the father praise the son and the spirit in one

And all of creation sing with me now Lift up your voice and lay your burden down And all of creation sing with me now Fill up the heavens let his glory resound

And every knee will bow oh and every tongue praise the Father praise the Son and the Spirit in one

Sermon - “Science and Faith” - Rev. David Bonnema

Today’s Question: Did God make the world in 7 days or was it the ? How do we reconcile these two different theories?

Science and faith are , not competitors.

Christians believe God created the world out of (ex nihilo).

Science seeks to explain how we got here. seeks to explain why we are here.

“Ordinary 24-hours days are not at all like the days of Genesis 1, but very, very .”  —St. Augustine

What is the Hebrew word for man? אָדָם =

Adam represents all of us. His story is our story too.

The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to it and take care of it. —Genesis 2:15

We were made to work and take care of the earth and to be in relationship with God and one another.

Song - “So Will I”

God of creation There at the start, before the beginning of time With no point of reference You spoke to the dark and fleshed out the wonder of light

And as You speak A hundred billion galaxies are born In the vapour of Your breath the planets form If the stars were made to worship, so will I I can see Your heart in everything You've made Every burning star, a signal fire of grace If creation sings Your praises, so will I

God of Your promise You don't speak in vain, no syllable empty or void For once You have spoken All nature and science, follow the sound of Your voice

And as You speak A hundred billion creatures catch Your breath Evolving in pursuit of what You said If it all reveals Your nature, so will I I can see Your heart in everything You say Every painted sky, a canvas of Your grace If creation still obeys You, so will I So will I, so will I

If the stars were made to worship, so will I If the mountains bow in reverence, so will I If the oceans roar Your greatness, so will I For if everything exists to lift You high, so will I And if the wind goes where You send it, so will I If the rocks cry out in silence, so will I If the sum of all our praises still falls shy Then we'll sing again a hundred billion times!

God of salvation You chased down my heart through all of my failure and pride On a hill You created The light of the world abandoned in darkness to die

And as You speak A hundred billion failures disappear Where You lost Your life so I could find it here If You left the grave behind You, so will I I can see Your heart in everything You've done Every part designed in a work of art called love If You gladly chose surrender, so will I I can see Your heart, eight billion different ways Every precious one, a child You died to save If You gave Your life to love them, so will I

Like You would again a hundred billion times But what measure could amount to Your desire? You're the One who never leaves the one behind

Welcome Rev. David Bonnema

Call to Worship Leader: In the beginning, before the world began,

People: God was.

Leader; Here and now, among us, beside us,

People: God is.

Leader: In the future, when all we know has turned to dust,

People: God will be.

Leader: Not denying the world but delighting in it,

People: God was, God is, God will be.

Hymn - “All Creatures of our God and King” - #455 v 1, 4, 6

Prayer of Confession

Creator God, we think we know a lot. We think we know how you created the vast spaces of our universe. We like to pick apart every cell, argue over every theory, and carbon date creation down to the last minute. In our efforts to understand how it all works, we forget the One who made it all work; You breathe life into all living things, You create galaxies that we cannot even hope to see, and You continue this creation day after day. Help us remember to worship You, the Great Creator, through the love of Jesus Christ, our Lord, Amen.

Doxology

Affirmation of Faith - The Apostles’ Creed

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ, His only son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried. He descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
