Sermon - “Moving Mountains”

We should adopt a Nothing Is With God attitude.

Jesus called his twelve disciples to him and gave them to drive out impure spirits and to heal every disease and sickness. —Matthew 10:1

Jesus responds emotionally when the disciples couldn’t heal the boy. Why couldn’t the disciples heal him? He replied, “Because you have so little .” —Matthew 17:20a

Mark’s gospel tell us that “This kind can come out only by .” —Mark 9:28-29

It appears that the disciples did not pray or go to God, the source of all healing. That is why their healing failed.

“Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this , ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”  —Matthew 17:20b

We can attempt great things for God only when we expect great things from God.

*Hymn “Praise Ye the Lord, the Almighty” #482

Prayer of Confession - God of the Impossible, we come to you today to admit to having very little faith. We want to believe, then life sends us something that turns us into skeptics. We come up against obstacles so large that it is hard to see Your presence. Give us enough faith to move the mountain in front of us and see Your glory. Help our unbelief, in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord, Amen.

Offering and Prayer of Thanksgiving

Sacrament of the Lord’s Supper and the Lord’s Prayer

Affirmation of Faith - The Apostles’ Creed: I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ, His only son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried. He descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
