Sermon - “A Willingness to Serve”

Our passage this morning is about a mother and a son who are on the brink of .

In 1 Kings 17:13, Elijah says “Do not be afraid.” In what ways are you afraid to trust the Lord completely and with all that you possess?

In order to be God’s people, we have to possess an willingness to serve the lord. A willingness to serve the Lord, that supersedes about what it is that God is calling us to do.

Do you believe God is a hero or a God? Are you willing to serve Him without any sort of expectation of compensation in return?

How can you serve God more or in a new way over this next year?

Hymn “As Those of Old Their Firstfruits Brought” - #414

Prayer of Confession written by Beth Merrill Neel

God of stars and angels, sheep and lambs, God of abundance and grace: You know us better than we know ourselves. You hear us sing our praises to You, and then watch us tear things apart with our words and deeds. You hear us say “Thy will be done” and “use me, O God” and You watch us do nothing in response. You know us, and You love us, and You forgive us. Help us to change; turn us around, and make us more loving and courageous and generous people. This we pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Doxology

Affirmation of Faith - The Apostles’ Creed

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ, His only son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried. He descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
