Sermon - “Rejoice and Give Thanks”
There is a misbelief in the world, that states since we are Christians then we have to be all the time.

Another misbelief about Christians is: Since we are Christians we should be all of the time, and if we are, then life’s circumstances will

In life, we are not always free to determine happens to us, but we are free to choose how we to what happens to us.

Paul teaches us that we can be but we can also be and rejoice in the things that we do have.

What is one thing you are grateful for today?

Call to Worship - Kara Lukehart

  • Leader: The work of the Creator is visible.
  • People: Let us respond with praise.
  • Leader; The commandments of God are clear.
  • People: Let us respond with obedience.
  • Leader: The love of Jesus is apparent.
  • People: Let us respond with joy.

Hymn - “Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee” - #464

Prayer of Confession: Loving God, we come today to confess how much we want to be happy. We will go to great lengths to avoid hardship, pain, and grief, yet we know that these places are often where we grow closer to You. Help us to experience all of life – the happy and the sad – as we become disciples of Jesus Christ, in whose name we pray, Amen.

A Prayer for Veteran’s Day

  • Leader: Loving God, we are so thankful for the many men and women who have served our country. We are permanently indebted to them for their courage, sacrifice, and dedication to our country. We tie ribbons today to honor our veterans.
  • People: For the men and women who serve in the Air Force, Army, Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard, we ask Your blessing.
  • Leader: For the family members who have made great sacrifices in order to make it possible for their service members to be on watch at home or around the world,
  • People: We ask Your blessing.
  • Leader: For the families who grieve the death of a loved one,
  • People: We ask Your blessing.
  • Leader: For the veterans of past wars who bear scars in their bodies and spirits,
  • People: We ask Your blessing.
  • Leader: For veterans who came home but couldn't “fit in” with their families or communities anymore,
  • People: We ask Your blessing on all today, Amen.
