Sermon - “Abundant Life” - Rev. Dana Seiler

What Lenten Practices are you observing this year? Are you adding or removing anything?

Matthew 6 reminds us to not practice our piety before others in order to be by them. Rather, our motivation for religious activity should be about a desire to draw closer to God.

Our Lenten sermon series is about Abundant Life. What does abundant life mean to you?

What is one step you can take to draw closer to God throughout Lent?

Song - “Overwhelmed”

Offering - Chris Deiulio

Prayer of Thanksgiving

Closing Song - “I Need Thee”

Benediction

Call to Worship - Chris Deiulio

  • Leader: We gather together at the edge of a new season.
  • People: We stand together on the cusp of something new.
  • Leader: Will we wade into self-reflection?
  • People: Will we invite honesty to dance?
  • Leader: Will we listen for God’s invitation?
  • People: Will we seek deeper faith?
  • Leader: What kind of fast do we choose? What kind of faith will we build?
  • People: We gather together at the edge of a new season.
  • Leader: Listen, God is speaking.

Hymn - “God of Grace and God of Glory” - #420

Prayer of Confession
Merciful God, How many times in a day could we choose love? How many times could we choose justice? How many times could we speak kindly to ourselves? How many times could we offer grace? How many times, God? And how often do we miss it? Forgive us for choosing the path You did not travel. Forgive us for hitching our horse to the world’s measure of goodness, instead of Yours. Return our hearts to You, and guide us continually, even in the parched places. With gratitude we pray, Amen.

  • Leader: In a world full of noise,
  • People: we believe that God is speaking.
  • Leader: In a world full of chaos,
  • People: we believe that God is singing.
  • Leader: In a world full of temptation,
  • People: we believe that God is healing.
  • Leader: Church, who will you listen to?
  • People: We will listen to God, our Creator, Friend, and Guide.
  • Leader: Church, what will you listen for?
  • People: We will listen for water in the desert, for the wind of the Spirit, for the laughter of children, for the sound of open doors, and for God’s voice, who calls us beloved. Amen.
