Hymn - “Christ is Risen! Shout Hosanna!” - #104

Prayer of Confession
God of resurrection, we confess that sometimes we run aimlessly. We chase our tails, looking for things that provide answers to the suffering of the world, looking for comfort to our longest nights, forgetting that You meet us in the darkness before dawn, and mistaking You for the gardener. Forgive us for seeking after worldly things. Forgive us for forgetting to seek You. Speak to us. Call us by name so that we might recognize you in our midst. With hope and gratitude we pray, Amen.

Sermon - “A Step Toward Impossible” - Rev. David Bonnema

Pastor David had to learn to write with broken thumbs. When have you had to overcome an experience that seemed impossible?

I want to Christ—yes, to know the power of his resurrection… —Philippians 3:10a

Pastor David refers to three types of knowledge. How can we know Jesus in these ways? Intellectual: Intuitive: Experiential:

Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my  but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. —Philippians 3:12

What is one step you can take to know Christ more fully? My next step is

Forgetting what is behind and toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. —Philippians 3:14

Christ has died, Christ has risen and in Christ we, too, one day will rise.

Doxology

Affirmation of Faith
We believe in resurrection— mysterious, beyond our understanding, and yet, like tulips after the snow: real. We believe in Easter morning— in the promise of a God who would roll back every stone to return to us. We believe in Jesus— who calls us by name and asks, “Who are you looking for?” So we look— for justice, for mercy, for God in our midst. And as we look, we sing, “Alleluia!”
