Sermon - “Peace or Conflict”

“Blessed are the , for they shall be called children of God.” —Matthew 5:9

Write an example of conflict happening right now (either in the world or in your life).

Mark left Paul and Barnabas mid-way through the missionary journey. As a result, Paul didn’t want to take him along on the next one. We’re told: They had such a disagreement that they parted company. —Acts 15:39a

Is this an example of Paul and Barnabas failing to be peacemakers? Why or why not?

Eventually they all worked toward reconciliation. Later in his life, Paul wrote these words to live by. If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at with everyone. —Romans 12:18

Seek peace and pursue it. Be a peacemaker.

Hymn - “O For a World” - #386

Prayer of Confession: Dear Lord, there are times when we choose conflict over peace. We dig our heels in and fight for what we want, not stopping to realize that the people we are fighting against are not our enemies – they are our families, our friends, our neighbors, and those in our communities whom we should be supporting and helping. Forgive us for our short-sightedness. Forgive us for putting ourselves first. Forgive us, O Lord, for causing conflict instead of working for peace, in the name of Jesus, Amen.

Doxology

Affirmation of Faith
I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ, His only son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried. He descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
