Sermon - “Shame or Honor”

According to Brene Brown, shame is the intensely painful feeling or experience of believing we are and therefore unworthy of acceptance and belonging.

God moves us away from shame to a place of honor.

Therefore, there is now no for those who are in Christ Jesus because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death. —Romans 8:1-2

Paul describes two different ways of life. What do you notice about the differences between the two?

God honors us by giving us a new title. For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the of God.  —Romans 8:14

Abba is Aramaic for :

We are children of God and heirs of God, inheriting a whole new way of life.

  • Leader: Let us worship God today, for God is eternal,
  • People: We worship the God who was, and is, and is to come.

Hymn - “Love Lifted Me/Amazing Grace”

Prayer of Confession

God of Grace, we have a hard time letting go of the past, the shame we feel about some of the ways we’ve lived our lives, the things we’ve done or failed to do, and the guilt we feel as a result. We find it hard to forgive ourselves for things we have done to others, unkind words that we have said, good deeds we could have done but failed to do, or selfish acts that had a negative effect on others. May Your grace flow abundantly, O Lord, to heal and restore both ourselves and others. Help us to seek reconciliation and extend sincere apologies to those we have hurt, so that we may all find solace in Your merciful embrace through the love and grace of Jesus Christ, Amen.
