List everything you know about Peter:

“When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus.”  —Acts 4:13

Peter was a nobody by the world’s standards. Jesus chose him anyway. “I tell you that you are Peter, and on this I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it.” —Matthew 16:18

What has been a mountaintop and valley experience in your journey of discipleship? Mountaintop:
Valley:

Even after Peter’s lowest moment, Jesus still uses him to share God's message with the world. Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about were added to their number that day. —Acts 2:41

The first and last words Jesus speaks to Peter are essentially the same. They are an invitation to a new way of life: Follow Me.

Call to Worship - Rev. Dana Seiler

  • Leader: This is a place where earth and heaven embrace,
  • People: Where people gather expectantly;
  • Leader: Where hopes are renewed and faith is restored;
  • People: Where peace is revived and love is refreshed.
  • Leader: This is a place where the God who shaped us
  • People: Walks among us full of grace and truth.

Hymn - “Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee” - #464

Prayer of Confession
God of overwhelming love, we admit that we love timidly. It’s easy to love those around us who do nice things for us, who live with us and serve with us and go through life with us. It is much harder to love those who get on our nerves, who cause trouble in our lives, and who go against the very ideals that we hold dear. Help us to love boldly, to step out in faith, and be audacious in our willingness to widen our arms and embrace all humans in the way that Jesus taught us, as we pray in His holy name, Amen.

Doxology

Affirmation of Faith - The Apostles’ Creed : I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ, His only son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried. He descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
