Sermon - “Church Words: Holiness” - Rev. David Bonnema
You are to be to me because I, the Lord, am holy, and I have set you apart from the nations to be my own. —Leviticus 20:26

קָדוֹשׁ = something set apart for God as .

Sanctification— the of being made holy.

I am confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to until the day of Christ Jesus. —Philippians 1:6

As we set aside ourselves for God, God will remove certain things from our lives and replace them with qualities that more closely align with God’s purposes. Paul gives us several examples:

Flee the evil desires of youth and pursue righteousness, , love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.  —2 Timothy 2:22

What areas of your life is God helping you to grow in holiness?

The next time you face a challenge, ask God “How can you use it to make me more holy?”

Prayer of Confession
Holy Lord, You call us to be Your people, but so often we are blown about by the latest crisis, by bad news, by our own short tempers, and by the failings of those around us. We worry and fret, forgetting to turn to You in our hour of need. Help us to set aside our jealousy and prejudice, our hurt and anger, our struggle and despair. Remind us to center ourselves on You when all around us seems to be in chaos. Help us to grow even more into Christ’s likeness, so that we can be called Your Holy Children, bearing Your love and peace into the world and into our own hearts, in the name of Jesus, Amen.

Doxology

Affirmation of Faith - The Apostles’ Creed: I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ, His only son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried. He descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
