Sermon - “Church Words: Grace”

χάρις: God’s love.

For the grace of God has been revealed, bringing to all people. —Titus 2:11

How did the ancient world feel about the Cretans?

Let us then approach God’s throne of with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need. —Hebrews 4:16

How is this different from how God’s people approached God's throne in the Old Testament?

Paul says… But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace to me was not without . No, I worked harder than all of them—yet not I, but the grace of God that was with me. —1 Corinthians 15:10

How did grace change Paul’s life? How does it change yours?

Allow the grace of God to have a profound effect in your life.

Offering and Prayer - Rev. Dana Seiler

Call to Worship - Rev. Dana Seiler

  • Leader: We come today to know the warmth of love,
  • People: To have the assurance that someone cares,
  • Leader: To be confident of our worth,
  • People: To be accepted as we are,
  • Leader: To be washed over with grace,
  • People: To worship our merciful God.

Hymn - “Amazing Grace” - #280 Verses 1, 2, 3, 5

Prayer of Confession
Holy Lord, God of life, we come to You today asking for forgiveness when we ourselves find it hard to forgive others. We hold our grudges, believing that forgiving someone might seem like we condone their actions. Remind us that Your grace is not earned nor deserved, but freely given. When we follow paths that lead to violence, or hate, or fear, turn us to the right path and let your love and grace and mercy flow over us and into the world. We pray all this in the precious name of Jesus, Amen.

Doxology

Affirmation of Faith - The Apostles’ Creed: I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ, His only son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried. He descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

Closing Hymn - “Grace Greater Than Our Sin” - Verses 1, 3, 4
