Sermon - “Get Up and Don’t Be Afraid”

On Sunday we celebrate the transfiguration Jesus underwent which revealed His true identity as God’s Son to the disciples and thus to the world.

When Paul used the Greek word, Metamorphomai, he was referring to the that occurs within ones self. The transformation that can and does take place within each person who comes into direct contact with God.

What was your “Mountain Top” experience that you were transformed by?

What did you learn about yourself and God through that experience?

How can you share those learned skills with others and apply to your life now?

Offering and Prayer

Prayer of Confession
Holy God, You call us to a bold, passionate, all-consuming faith yet, so frequently, we meet You with anxiety and fear. Thank You for remaining with us even when we give You only distracted, leftover moments of our time. Change us with Your Spirit. Transform us on the mountain and walk with us when we return to the valley. Remind us that You will guide our steps and lead our lives. Give us the courage to truly be Your witnesses in this world in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

Doxology

Affirmation of Faith - The Apostles’ Creed: I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ, His only son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried. He descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

Closing Hymn - “Trust and Obey”
