What does it feel like to be lost?

Zacchaeus was trying to who Jesus was… —Luke 19:3a

What might be Zacchaeus’ motivation for wanting to see Jesus?

So he hurried down and was happy to welcome him. All who saw it began to and said, “He has gone to be the guest of one who is a sinner.” —Luke 19:6-7

The crowd is upset because they know how sinful Zacchaeus is. Yet it is because he is a sinner, not in spite of it, that Jesus is going to his house.

Then Jesus said to him, “Today has come to this house, because he too is a son of Abraham. For the Son of Man came to seek out and to save the lost.” —Luke 19:9-10

“You have made us for yourself, and our hearts are , until they can find rest in you.” —St. Augustine, Confessions

There is a place in us that longs to be filled by our creator.

Prayer of Confession
Loving God, it is easy to sit back and watch. We see the beautiful things You create and the good things You do, and we are grateful. It is harder to stand up and join You, to be more than an observer of the good and become a participant in it. Help us see the places where You are working and how we can contribute to Your will in the world. Forgive us for the times when we missed our opportunity to be the hands and feet of Jesus Christ, in whose name we pray, Amen.

Doxology

Affirmation of Faith - The Apostles’ Creed; I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ, His only son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried. He descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
