When was the Apostles Creed written and why?

I believe in God the Father Almighty, of heaven and earth…

“The Apostles creed furnishes us with a full and every way complete summary of , containing nothing but what has been derived from the infallible word of God” —John Calvin

…he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead… - γέενναν: place of the dead or the .

…he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to the quick and the dead.

Why do we need God as judge?

I believe in the Holy Spirit; the holy Church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

Opening Hymn - “Great Is Thy Faithfulness” - #276 - 3 Verses

Prayer of Confession -
Almighty God, we spend more time thinking about the ways we doubt than the ways we believe. At times we doubt Your ability and Your willingness to do actual miracles in our lives. At other times, we doubt Your timing or Your methods. And, most importantly, we doubt that all You do is because You love us and want us to prosper. Help us to focus on our belief in You. Forgive us for looking through worldly eyes instead of seeing with heavenly vision. Thank You for Your endless grace and patience, in the precious Name of Jesus. Amen.

Doxology

Affirmation of Faith - The Apostles’ Creed - I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ, His only son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried. He descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

Closing Hymn - “My Faith Looks Up to Thee” - #383 V 1-3
