Sermon - “Submit Yourselves”

James describes two types of wisdom: wisdom and wisdom.

Douglas Moo emphasizes that “submission” in James’ world is dynamic and transformative. It is not about giving up, but it’s about a giving over.

When in your life have you felt like you weren’t seeking after the path God had for you? What was that experience like?

What are you still hanging on to and controlling, that you need to hand over and yield to God?

What was your biggest takeaway from this sermon series on the Book of James?

A 4th of July Prayer

Prayer of Confession:
Merciful God, we confess that too often we rely on our own understanding, chasing after our own desires and trusting in our own wisdom. We seek to control when You ask us to surrender, and follow Your ways whenever it seems convenient to us. Forgive us for the times we have refused to align our will with Yours. Cleanse our hearts of envy, selfishness, and pride. Draw us near to You, that we might be filled with Your wisdom, a wisdom that is pure, peaceful, gentle, and full of mercy. Teach us to humble ourselves, trusting that Your ways will create for us lives of blissful harmony, in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

Affirmation of Faith - The Apostles’ Creed
I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ, His only son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried. He descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
