David Bonnema Describe a situation where you need wisdom from God i.e. an answer to a question, a direction to go, a decision to make. King Nebuchadnezzar has a troubling dream and wants his wise men to tell him what it is. But they cannot. The king orders the execution of all the wise men in the kingdom, including Daniel. Here is Daniel’s response: Then Daniel returned to his house and explained the matter to his friends Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah. He urged them to plead for from the God of heaven concerning this mystery, so that he and his friends might not be executed with the rest of the wise men of Babylon. —Daniel 2:17-18 Daniel understands that it is not by his intellect or understanding that this mystery will be solved. It is God and God alone who can reveal the answers. Daniel’s Prayer to God “Praise be to the name of God for ever and ever, wisdom and power are his. He changes times and seasons; he deposes kings and raises up others. He gives wisdom to the wise and to the discerning. He reveals deep and hidden things; he knows what lies in darkness, and light dwells with him. I thank and praise you, God of my ancestors: You have given me wisdom and power, you have made known to me what we asked of you, you have made known to us the of the king.” —Daniel 2:20-23 Pray this prayer daily this week as you ask God for wisdom. Hymn - “Immortal, Invisible, God Only Wise” - #263 Verses 1, 3, 4 Prayer of Confession: All-Knowing God, as a new season begins, we confess how often we rely on our own understanding. We rush ahead, trying to control the future instead of waiting on You and trusting in Your wisdom. We hold on to what we know, even when You are calling us into something new. Forgive us, O God, for forgetting that all wisdom and knowledge come from You. Shine Your light into our shadows, and help us walk forward in faith, humility, and hope. Renew us, so we might begin again with courage, leaning on our faith in Jesus Christ, in whose name we pray, Amen.
