Dana Seiler Song - “Trust in God” Sermon - “Faith to Stand” - Rev. David Bonnema Describe a time when you did something bold, but not wise. What was Paul Schneider asked to do and how did he respond? Daniel’s friends are asked to kneel before an idol. These men had a faith that stood even when the rest of the world chose to kneel. Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego replied to him, “King Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to defend ourselves before you in this matter. If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is to deliver us from it, and he will deliver us from Your Majesty’s hand.” —Daniel 3:16-17 In what ways do you make God too small in your life? “But even if he does , we want you to know, Your Majesty, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up.” —Daniel 3:18 God did not keep them out of the furnace, but he was with them in it. Leader: Let us worship the God who walks with us through the flames. People: Glory be to God, our refuge, our Redeemer, our King! Hymn - “How Firm a Foundation” - #361 Verses 1, 2, 4 Prayer of Confession: Merciful God, we confess that we have not always trusted You when faced with the fires in our lives. We have been quick to doubt when the flames grew hot and quick to seek others to lean on when the pressure mounted. Forgive us for the times our faith depended on getting the answers we wanted. Forgive us when our loyalty wavers in the face of fear. Help us to stand strong in our faith through the easy times and through the darkness of the valleys, as you walk beside us. We pray all this in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, Amen. He descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
