Sermon - “A Season of Rebuilding”

Why were God’s people disappointed in the new temple?

Settling is when people lower their because of past disappointments.

Now this is what the Lord Almighty says: “Give careful to your ways. You have planted much, but harvested little.” —Haggai 1:5

Spiritual Self-Audit:
Question 1: What has your attention?

Question 2: What are you neglecting?

Question 3: Where is God inviting you next?

‘The glory of this present house will be than the glory of the former house,’ says the Lord Almighty. ‘And in this place I will grant peace,’ declares the Lord Almighty.” —Haggai 2:9

If God dwells with you—there is glory there!

Call to Worship - Rev. Dana Seiler

  • Leader: No matter what this week has held,
  • People: God meets us today in this sacred place.
  • Leader: No matter how scattered our priorities have been,
  • People: God calls us to center ourselves on His word.
  • Leader: This is a time to refocus, to realign, to begin anew.
  • People: We come to worship God together today.

Hymn “The Church’s One Foundation”

Prayer of Confession:
God of wisdom and truth, we confess that our priorities are often misplaced. We invest our time, energy, and resources in things that serve ourselves and our families. We have often ignored your calling and delayed the work you have given us. We say we will follow you, but later, or serve you, but when it’s convenient, or trust you when everything is already secure. Forgive us for building our lives around ourselves instead of around you. Turn our hearts back to you. Help us to rebuild what we have neglected: our faith, our devotion, and our commitment to your work, through the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord, Amen.

Eastertide Affirmation of Faith by Rev. Sarah A. Speed:
We believe in resurrection, mysterious, beyond our understanding, and yet, like tulips after the snow, real. We believe in Easter, in the promise of a God who would roll back every stone to return to us. We believe in Jesus, who calls us by name and asks, “Who are you looking for?” So we look for justice, for mercy, for God in our midst. And as we look, we sing, “Alleluia!” Amen.
