Yet, Lord, we confess that often we prefer to stay in the shadows, comfortable and unchanged. We are afraid of the wind and flame of your presence. We cling to our selfish ways and ignore the fire that burns within us to do good. On this day when the church was born to bring all people together, we confess that we have allowed our own biases, fears, and divisions to create walls. We have not always used our gifts to serve you, and we have strayed from your vision of unity. Forgive us, O Lord. Send your Holy Spirit to shake us from our complacency, to blow away our fear, and to ignite in us a passion for justice and love. Forgive us, and make us one. Amen.
