When you imagine heaven, what words or images come to mind?

οὐρανός (ouranos) = the place of God

I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. —Revelation 21:2-3

What four things will be removed from the new creation?

On each side of the river stood the of life, bearing twelve crops of fruit, yielding its fruit every month. —Revelation 22:2b

They will see his , and his name will be on their foreheads. —Revelation 22:4

The climax of the biblical story is the reunion of what sin had separated.

Call to Worship - Rev. Dana Seiler

  • Leader: Come, let us worship the God who makes all things new.
  • People: We come with the hope of restoration.
  • Leader: Mourning and crying and pain will be no more.
  • People: God will wipe every tear from our eyes.
  • Leader: God is making all things new.
  • People: So we worship with hope, with joy, and with expectation.

Hymn - “I Sing the Mighty Power of God” - #288 - 3 Verses

Prayer of Confession:
God of Creation, we confess that we forget that You are already making things new. We hold tightly to our disappointments, our fears, our grudges, and our mistakes as though they have the final word. We get so caught up in what is broken that we fail to see Your restoration at work around us. Forgive us when we do not understand that we are already living in Your eternity. Give us strength to believe that people can change, relationships can be healed, communities can be renewed, and creation can be restored. Turn our hearts toward your promised future through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.

Doxology

Affirmation of Faith - The Apostles’ Creed:
I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried. He descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
