Call to Worship

  • Leader: Today we gather from different places and backgrounds.
  • People: Yet we gather around one table.
  • Leader: We worship in different languages with different traditions.
  • People: Yet we proclaim one God.
  • Leader: We come with different struggles and different hopes.
  • People: Let us lay aside what divides us and fix our eyes on Jesus.
  • Leader: So let us take one more step toward one another.
  • People: One church. One table. One family. One Lord.

Hymn - “Fight the Good Fight” - 3 Verses

Prayer of Confession:
Gracious God, we are often surrounded by people who look like us, think like us, worship like us, and see the world as we do. We seek out people who have our same interests, beliefs, and customs. We forget that your family is bigger than our congregation, bigger than our denomination, bigger than our country, and bigger than ourselves. Forgive us for the times that we have insisted our way is the only way. Help us lay down our pride, our assumptions, and our need to be right. Teach us to see one another as beloved children of God. And help us take one more step toward the unity that comes in Jesus Christ, in whose name we pray, Amen.

Affirmation of Faith by Ed Baker:
I believe in the resurrection. I believe that Jesus lives today and for all time past and yet to come. I believe he empowers his followers to follow in his footsteps, fight the forces of evil, and find their peace and joy and eternal hope in him.

I believe in the resurrection. I believe that Jesus calls women, men, and children to join him in changing the world, one heart and life at a time, starting with their own. Then Jesus will establish his eternal kingdom, where there will be no more soldiers or spears or battles or bleeding wounds or crosses.

I believe all this because I believe in the resurrection. Amen.
