Genesis 2:8-17 NKJV

8 The Lord God planted a garden eastward in Eden, and there He put the man whom He had formed.  9 And out of the ground the Lord God made every tree grow that is pleasant to the sight and good for food. The tree of life was also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. 10 Now a river went out of Eden to water the garden, and from there it parted and became four riverheads.  11 The name of the first is Pishon; it is the one which skirts the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold.  12 And the gold of that land is good. Bdellium and the onyx stone are there.  13 The name of the second river is Gihon; it is the one which goes around the whole land of Cush.  14 The name of the third river is Hiddekel; it is the one which goes toward the east of Assyria. The fourth river is the Euphrates. 15 Then the Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to tend and keep it.  16 And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, “Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat;  17 but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.”

  1. Pishon - Increase
  2. Gishon - Bursting
  3. Tigris - Rapid
  4. Euphrates - Fruitful

I. God Blessings Are Found Within God’s vs. 16-17

16 And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, “Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat;  17 but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.”

  1. You don’t need more resources you need to be more resourceful.

  2. Money avoids those who don’t value their time.

B. it God’s Way

  1. Money is useless until you take it and put it to use.
  2. No one has ever saved their way to wealth

Remember: Stop buying stuff we don’t need with money we don’t have to impress people we don’t know or like.

II. When You Go Outside the the turn Into vs. 3:17-19

Genesis 3:17-19 17 Then to Adam He said, “Because you have heeded the voice of your wife, and have eaten from the tree of which I commanded you, saying, ‘You shall not eat of it’: “Cursed is the ground for your sake; In toil you shall eat of it All the days of your life. 18 Both thorns and thistles it shall bring forth for you, And you shall eat the herb of the field. 19 In the sweat of your face you shall eat bread Till you return to the ground, For out of it you were taken; For dust you are, And to dust you shall return.”

A. from God Affects Your Relationship with God.

Malachi 3:8-12 8 “Will a man rob God? Yet you have robbed Me! But you say, ‘In what way have we robbed You?’ In tithes and offerings. 9 You are cursed with a curse, For you have robbed Me, Even this whole nation. 10  Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, That there may be food in My house, And try Me now in this,” Says the Lord of hosts, “If I will not open for you the windows of heaven And pour out for you such blessing That there will not be room enough to receive it. 11 “And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, So that he will not destroy the fruit of your ground, Nor shall the vine fail to bear fruit for you in the field,” Says the Lord of hosts; 12 “And all nations will call you blessed, For you will be a delightful land,” Says the Lord of hosts.

  1. The tithe is a principal not a rule.

Note: The Law was given in Exodus 20

Remember: Love gives more than the law.

  1. The tithe is the floor not the ceiling.

B. Sometimes God gives you resources other times He shows you how to be resourceful.

III. Apart from Brokenness Turns You into A Bully. vs. 4:3-8

Genesis 4:3-8 3 And in the process of time it came to pass that Cain brought an offering of the fruit of the ground to the Lord.  4 Abel also brought of the firstborn of his flock and of their fat. And the Lord respected Abel and his offering,  5 but He did not respect Cain and his offering. And Cain was very angry, and his countenance fell. 6 So the Lord said to Cain, “Why are you angry? And why has your countenance fallen?  7 If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin lies at the door. And its desire is for you, but you should rule over it.” 8 Now Cain talked with Abel his brother; and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother and killed him.
