The Magnificent VII Part Two: Lost in the Light Micaiah Irmler John 8:12 NKJV The seven I AM statements are so powerful. Remember: The seven I AM statements of Jesus can change who I am. Remember: Jesus said I AM so now I don’t have to be. Note: There is a Word this morning that will wake us up. Key Text: John 8:12 NKJV 12 Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.” Question: Can anyone tell me what today is? Daylight savings time. Illustration: Daylight savings time start in 1918 and it was an idea we stole from Germany to save energy for the war effort. Hence the name daylight savings. The Scene vs. 1-11 John 8:1-11 NKJV 1 But Jesus went to the Mount of Olives. 2 Now early in the morning He came again into the temple, and all the people came to Him; and He sat down and taught them. 3 Then the scribes and Pharisees brought to Him a woman caught in adultery. And when they had set her in the midst, 4 they said to Him, “Teacher, this woman was caught in adultery, in the very act. 5 Now Moses, in the law, commanded us [d]that such should be stoned. But what do You say?” 6 This they said, testing Him, that they might have something of which to accuse Him. But Jesus stooped down and wrote on the ground with His finger, as though He did not hear. 7 So when they continued asking Him, He raised Himself up and said to them, “He who is without sin among you, let him throw a stone at her first.” 8 And again He stooped down and wrote on the ground. 9 Then those who heard it, being convicted by their conscience, went out one by one, beginning with the oldest even to the last. And Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst. 10 When Jesus had raised Himself up and saw no one but the woman, He said to her, “Woman, where are those accusers of yours? Has no one condemned you?” 11 She said, “No one, Lord.” And Jesus said to her, “Neither do I condemn you; go and sin no more.” Note: The scene is dark. **Note: Very early in the morning, a couple breaking their marital vows, and a plot to use that to trap Jesus. ** History: The feast of succoth has just ended. The light that filled Jerusalem from the seventy foot menorah has gone out. The light from the candelabra had burned out so now there is darkness in the temple and Jesus went very early in the morning before the sun was up. Note: The scene is dark but its about to get darker. Jesus like His father didn’t say let the BE light He said I AM the light! Note: They were not wandering in a wilderness but they are wandering without the light. Note: Light verses darkness is not a fair contest light always will win. The darkness of . The darkness of . The darkness of . Note: Light can only take so much darkness. Note: Jesus couldn’t take anymore darkness. The Statement vs. 12 12 Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.” Luke 2:25-32 NKJV 25 And behold, there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon, and this man was just and devout, waiting for the Consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him. 26 And it had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death before he had seen the Lord’s Christ. 27 So he came by the Spirit into the temple. And when the parents brought in the Child Jesus, to do for Him according to the custom of the law, 28 he took Him up in his arms and blessed God and said: 29 “Lord, now You are letting Your servant depart in peace, According to Your word; 30 For my eyes have seen Your salvation 31 Which You have prepared before the face of all peoples, 32 A light to bring revelation to the Gentiles, And the glory of Your people Israel.” Jesus is the of the . Illustration: We moved into 106 Mayland Court in 2012 and our next door neighbor had Christmas lights still up on their house it was March but the lights were still up. That renter came and left but the lights stayed. Another renter came and went but the lights stayed. Another renter came and left but the lights stayed on. Then we came and left and the lights stayed. I drove by the house last week and the lights are still there. Don’t Leave the Light but definitely leave the light on. Remember: Leave the light on don’t leave the light. You Don’t Need to Save Light When You Are the Source of Light vs. 12 12 Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.” Jesus is not a borrowed light. Jesus is not a burning light that burns out. Following the Light Guides us Away from Destruction. John 8:12NLT Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, “I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.” Note: IF YOU FOLLOW ME… you won’t walk in darkness. The Sight John 9:1-12 NKJV 1 Now as Jesus passed by, He saw a man who was blind from birth. 2 And His disciples asked Him, saying, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?” 3 Jesus answered, “Neither this man nor his parents sinned, but that the works of God should be revealed in him. 4 I must work the works of Him who sent Me while it is day; the night is coming when no one can work. 5 As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.” 6 When He had said these things, He spat on the ground and made clay with the saliva; and He anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay. 7 And He said to him, “Go, wash in the pool of Siloam” (which is translated, Sent). So he went and washed, and came back seeing. 8 Therefore the neighbors and those who previously had seen that he was blind said, “Is not this he who sat and begged?” 9 Some said, “This is he.” Others said, “He is like him.” He said, “I am he.” 10 Therefore they said to him, “How were your eyes opened?” 11 He answered and said, “A Man called Jesus made clay and anointed my eyes and said to me, ‘Go to the pool of Siloam and wash.’ So I went and washed, and I received sight.” 12 Then they said to him, “Where is He?” He said, “I do not know.” 25 He answered and said, “Whether He is a sinner or not I do not know. One thing I know: that though I was blind, now I see.” Remember: Faith Sees What Sight Can’t. Question: Jesus are you there!?! The light is always there. Question: Have you ever found yourself in a situation where you think there is no light here? Where it seems black. UV light is still light. Its undetectable to the naked eye. Illustration: We cannot see UV light which is why we call it a black light. But the light we cannot see helps us to see things we also cannot see. UV light appears as the absence of light which is why it appears as black meaning without color. Not there are things that are undetectable to the naked eye that God is doing. Jesus sends a man to a pool called sent so that He could send a message to everyone around Him that Jesus is the Light of the world that gives light. Fact: Ultra violet light has a little bit of violet because without it you would damage your eyes because you wouldn’t even realize you are getting over exposed to the light. Note: The blind man couldn’t see the light. **The light is even when you don’t see it. ** Remember: Even if you can see it you can still be saved. Note: The only way you can detect the light is on when it hits something that can reflect its light. Note: When we get too much of the sun we call it sunburn. We got to much exposure to the sun. Note: We talk of sunrise I say let the SON of God rise in our heart and into our worlds and bring the light that changes our lives and the lives of everyone around us. Question: Have you found the light? The light has come to save the day. Question: If you have found the light are you today and everyday following that light? Question: How many of you today say today I want to start following the light? Prayer: Jesus today I see YOU. You light has shone into my darkness. Let your light lead me out of my despair. I want to follow you. I want to walk in the light as you are in the light. In Jesus name amen! **Note: Jesus is the light that lights up our lives. ** Question: What do we mean when we say, “They’ve Seen the Light?” Answer: We mean that they now see the truth, the answer, it makes sense, they discern it, etc,. Note: Echos of Light. Note: Light chases the shadows away. Note: Put on the armor of light. Ignite the Light Light reveals Light The Light of Jesus Doesn’t Need Saving but Jesus is the Light that came to save the day. Note: Divide the light in your life. Note: The people living a double standard are trying to trap Jesus in a double standard. Note: Light fills, light frees, Note: Saving the Day with Light. Set the scene. Good video needs good sound but even better lighting. Lighting is everything. Jesus didn’t just say there is a light on me but a light flowing out of me. Remember: You don’t need to save it when you are the source. Remember: You don’t need to save light when you are the source of light. Note: Jesus will sit in New Jerusalem and the light that will eminent from his throne will light the world.
