Ink and Fire: The Words that Changed the World Part Six: Don’t Let this Kill the Call

Romans 6:1–4 (NKJV)

What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound?

2 Certainly not! How shall we who died to sin live any longer in it? 3 Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? 4 Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

There are certain things that simply can’t follow you into your next season.

Things like: Drunkenness, Lust, Envy, Jealousy, Pride, Ego

If we don’t say goodbye to these things: They will stay and destroy us. They could eventually kill our calling.

Saul and the Sin of Needing Approval.

1 Samuel 15:3 (NKJV) Now go and attack Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and do not spare them. 1 Samuel 15:24 (NKJV) Then Saul said to Samuel, “I have sinned, for I have transgressed the commandment of the Lord and your words, because I feared the people and obeyed their voice.” 1 Samuel 15:28 (NKJV) So Samuel said to him, “The Lord has torn the kingdom of Israel from you today, and has given it to a neighbor of yours, who is better than you.”

God gave Saul clear instructions to destroy everything.

Saul disobeyed because he wanted to be — he feared the people.

His need for approval was never dealt with.

Undealt-with sin always grows until it costs us more than we thought it would.

"What you feed grows. What you starve dies."

7 Practical Ways to Kill Sin.

Be in Prayer. Matthew 26:41 (NKJV) “Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.”

Run and Flee. 2 Timothy 2:22 (NKJV) Flee also youthful lusts; but pursue righteousness, faith, love, peace with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart. Genesis 39:12 (NKJV) That she caught him by his garment, saying, “Lie with me.” But he left his garment in her hand, and fled and ran outside.

Pursue . 1 Timothy 6:11–12 (NKJV) But you, O man of God, flee these things and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, gentleness. Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life…

Admit You Are Without . Romans 5:6 (NKJV) For when we were still without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.

Confess. 1 John 1:9 (NKJV) If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Don’t Fighting. 1 Corinthians 9:27 (NKJV) But I discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest, when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified.

to the Flesh. ● Dead people don’t lust, gossip, or crave control ● When you die to sin, you come alive to purpose ● You don’t need to manage sin — you need to bury it

What is still alive in you that God is calling you to kill?

What are you carrying that God already gave you the power to bury?

Tonight could be the night you die to self… so you can truly walk in newness of life.
