Who's Your One Part 2: The Making of a Missionary Charles Homer Matthew 28:16-20 Matthew 28:16-20 Then the eleven disciples went away into Galilee, to the mountain which Jesus had appointed for them. 17 When they saw Him, they worshiped Him; but some doubted. 18 And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen. REALIZE WHAT'S AT STAKE // eternity depends on faith in Jesus. Matthew 7:29 for he was teaching them as one who had authority (exousia), and not as their scribes. Mark 1:27 And they were all amazed, so that they questioned among themselves, saying, “What is this? A new teaching with authority(exousia)! He commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey him.” Matthew 9:5-7 For which is easier, to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven you,’ or to say, ‘Arise and walk’? 6 But that you may know that the Son of Man has power (exousia) on earth to forgive sins”—then He said to the paralytic, “Arise, take up your bed, and go to your house.” 7 And he arose and departed to his house. 8 Now when the multitudes saw it, they marveled and glorified God, who had given such power to men. John 1:12 But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right (exousia) to become children of God John 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me." Acts 4:12 Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved. PERSONALLY RESPOND TO THE COMMAND // we are all commanded to GO. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you… "The Great Commission is not an option to be considered, but it is a command to be obeyed.” Hudson Taylor (1832–1905) Jesus' command requires a response. Matthew 28:19-20 YOU Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” Have you answered the call? Have you surrendered your plans, your dreams, your desires, and adopted the plans God has for your life? BE WILLING TO PAY THE . Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen. But the cost of nondiscipleship is far greater—even when this life alone is considered—than the price paid to walk with Jesus. Nondiscipleship costs abiding peace, a life penetrated throughout by love, faith that sees everything in the light of God’s overriding governance for good, hopefulness that stands firm in the most discouraging of circumstances, power to do what is right and withstand the forces of evil. In short, it costs exactly that abundance of life Jesus said he came to bring (John 10:10). The cross-shaped yoke of Christ is after all an instrument of liberation and power to those who live in it with him and learn the meekness and lowliness of heart that brings rest to the soul.
