Matthew 5:13–16 Jesus says: “You are the salt of the earth.” “You are the light of the world.” If you follow Jesus, your life is supposed to have an influence. I hope our faith moves from private belief to visible action. Not so people will notice us. But so that through our lives, people will notice Jesus. Our lives are always influencing someone. Matthew 5:13–16 “You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” (1) Salt of the Earth the World With Your Faith and Integrity Faith isn't meant to stay in this building. Faith isn't just for Sunday morning. Faith goes with us into Monday morning. Our influence comes from the way we live. Faith is what our lives demonstrate that we believe. (2) Light in Darkness Christ’s love where there is despair Jesus says to His followers: “You are the light of the world.” God has placed you somewhere. Love that listens. Love that serves. Love that forgives. Love that welcomes. Love that sacrifices. Love that tells the truth while still being compassionate. Love that sees the person before it sees the disagreement. (3) Visible Impact Let Your Actions Others to Know God Our lives are supposed to point beyond ourselves. Living faith that leaves a legacy. Legacy is about how many people were changed because you lived faithfully. Jesus isn't asking you to change the entire world. He's asking you to be salt. He's asking you to be light. Right where you are. Three questions to think about this week: (1) Where is God asking me to be salt? (2) Where is God asking me to be light? (3) What will people see when they look at my life? We aren't called simply to gather. We're called to influence. We aren't called simply to receive. We're called to give. Jesus says: “Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”
