Scriptural Focus: Matthew 5:17-20

“Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.” (Matthew 5:17)

All of finds its meaning in Jesus.

“...whoever practices and teaches these commands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven.” (Matt. 5:19)

Getting Close to Jesus

If Jesus is the fulfillment of all scripture, then to know him, us to know the scriptures.

Informational vs. Formational Reading

reading asks, “What does this say?”

reading asks, “What does God want to do in me?”

Remember, Jesus Is in the Room

When you read scripture, you are stepping into an . Jesus, the One who fulfills the Law and the Prophets, is present by His Spirit.

Drawing near to Christ in Scripture:

  1. READ SLOWLY
  2. READ PRAYERFULLY
  3. READ ATTENTIVELY
  4. READ OBEDIENTLY
