Palm Sunday 2025

By Pastor Eric Schroeder, April 13, 2025

This week is Palm Sunday, and this begins as many call the Holy Week.

We have read the scriptures about Jesus telling His disciples to get the colt and donkey and bring them to Him. We saw that this was even fulfilling prophecy, and this is how He made His triumphant entry.

Zechariah 9:9 NASB

A in this time signified peace, but also as a sign of war. A however also was a sign of peace and stood for meekness and peace.

Jesus came riding into Jerusalem as a sign of a humble King of peace rather than a King who wants to rage war.

This was shocking to people because they were expecting the king to arise that would remove them from Roman rule.

Matthew 21:6-10 NASB

The roars and shouting of the people were so loud that the city began to quake, or shake, and it caused people great concern, about what was going on that they began to question who was coming into town.

How the Greek word that was used was only used 5 times.

  1. This section, Matthew 21:10
  2. When the veil tore in two when the earth quaked Matthew 27:51
  3. When the guards saw the grave was empty and they saw the angel it says they shook for fear and became like dead men. Matthew 28:4
  4. In Hebrews it talks about God shaking the heavens and the earth. Hebrews 12:26
  5. In Revelations it says the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casts her untimely figs, when she is shaking of a mighty wind – Revelations 6:13

The entry was loud, and nothing calm. It was so loud the city shook, and people began to wonder, and question who was coming into town. The news of Jesus's arrival spread throughout the city.

In a sence they were worshipping Jesus and calling out His name saying Hosanna in the Highest, Hosanna to the king.

The word Hosanna is derived from two Hebrew words that mean I beseech (pray) to save us, avenge us, deliver us, help us.

They were wanting and desperate to be freed from the Roman rule, so their cries were one of desperation.

I believe their shouts were moving the heart of Jesus for revival. They wanted Him to free them, deliver them, and save them.

We see the very first thing Jesus does when He enters Jerusalem is cleanse the temple and drive out all who defiling it.

Mark 11:15-18 NASB John 2:14-16 NASB

Jesus was being moved by the prayer, and cries of the people for freedom, salvation, and deliverance and the first thing He does is clean out the temple of the junk to return it back to what it was called to be a place of prayer not just for Israel but for the world.

Jesus sent us the Holy Spirit to clean the temple. We are seeing a cleansing in two ways right now in the world.

  1. The Holy Spirit has been with us ever since the day of Pentecost.

    • 1 Corinthians 6:18-20 NASB
    • The Holy Spirit doesn’t want us to defile our temples, so that we can walk and live holy and according to the perfect will of God.
  2. The second is the cleansing of temple (church) is happening once again. -God is cleaning the house of the Lord once again. We are seeing those that are using the house of the Lord for personal gain, being driven out, we see those that are defiling the house of the Lord, are being driven out, we see those that have turned the temple into a marketplace are being driven out.

I believe once things have been driven out, the places of worship will once again be a house of prayer not just for their church but for an entire community.

I am saying the redemption of our land is coming, the redemption of our time is coming, the redemptive move of God is coming.
