It’s a Lay Up

Kingdom Values

By Dean Fulks, October 30, 2022

Living in the Kingdom means giving towards things that matter

Acts 1:3 – He presented himself alive to them after his suffering by many proofs, appearing to them during forty days and speaking about the kingdom of God.

The Kingdom of God is His eternal, spiritual ruling authority over everything

Acts 28: 30-31 – He lived there two whole years at his own expense, and welcomed all who came to him, proclaiming the kingdom of God and teaching about the Lord Jesus Christ with all boldness and without hindrance.

Matthew 6:19 – Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal

Money is not fundamentally bad; it just makes a bad god

Matthew 6:20 – But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.

Eternity is the most secure investment we will ever make

Proverbs 6:6-8 – Go to the ant, O sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise. Without having any chief, officer, or ruler, she prepares her bread in summer and gathers her food in harvest.

Matthew 6:21 – For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

What has your attention has your passion

Matthew 6:24 – No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.

Serving two masters is a monster

Matthew 6:33 – “Seek first His kingdom then all of these things will be added to you.”

2 Corinthians 8:9 – For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you by his poverty might become rich.

Jesus lost all of His treasure so that you could become His treasure

Sermon Conversation Starters

  1. All of us have treasures… things that are important and precious to us. What is something that is really important to you?

  2. Today we learned about some of the things that Jesus said were most important to him. *Share one or two things you learned from today's sermon.

  3. If we are going to follow Jesus' example, what is something that is important to Jesus that should also be important to us? How will making that important to us change how we live this week?
