Kingdom Values

By Dean Fulks, November 20, 2022

Living in the Kingdom means giving towards things that matter

The Kingdom of God is His eternal, spiritual ruling authority over everything

Matthew 6:25-26 – Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?

Generosity helps us fight the worry wars

Matthew 6:27 – Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?

Comparison falsely minimizes our perspective

Matthew 6:22-23a – The eye is the lamp of the body. So, if your eye is healthy, your whole body will be full of light, but if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness.

Ownership falsely maximizes our perspective

Matthew 6:21 – For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

2 Corinthians 8:9 – For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you by his poverty might become rich.

Sermon Conversation Starters

  1. Today we learned that “comparison is the thief of joy.” It is easy for us to be tempted to compare what possessions and resources we have with what somebody else might have. Why do you think this is? How does this steal joy from our lives?

  2. Today we learned that “generosity helps us fight the worry wars.” What are some things that we can worry about as it comes to our financial resources? How does generosity help us to fight worry?

  3. What is one, specific way you could be generous this week and how could that help you fight a specific worry that you often have?
