God’s purpose for you is established in his provision for you We Were Born Into a Battle Matthew 4:1 - Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. Matthew 3:16 - And when Jesus was baptized, immediately he went up from the water, and behold, the heavens were opened to him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and coming to rest on him. Our relationship with God is just as real in the wilderness as it is in the water We Have an Active Enemy Matthew 4:3–10 - And the tempter came and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, command these stones to become loaves of bread.” But he answered, “It is written, “‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’” Then the devil took him to the holy city and set him on the pinnacle of the temple and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down, for it is written, “‘He will command his angels concerning you,’ and “‘On their hands they will bear you up, lest you strike your foot against a stone.’” Jesus said to him, “Again it is written, ‘You shall not put the Lord your God to the test.’” Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. And he said to him, “All these I will give you, if you will fall down and worship me.” Then Jesus said to him, “Be gone, Satan! For it is written, “‘You shall worship the Lord your God and him only shall you serve.’” Matthew 3:17 - And behold, a voice from heaven said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.” In the same season of life, Jesus experienced both the affirmation of his father and the attack of the enemy Matthew 4:6 - “He will command his angels concerning you,” and “On their hands they will bear you up, lest you strike your foot against a stone.” We believe that what God says about us is the most important thing about us Satan is not interested in tempting us with things that we aren’t interested in Matthew 4:8 - Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. And he said to him, “All these I will give you, if you will fall down and worship me.” Philippians 2:8–11 - And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Sin always overpromises but underdelivers “We don’t just do sin, sin does us. We don’t just commit sin, sin commits us.” We Have a Sympathetic Savior Hebrews 4:14–16 - Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need. Our hope when we get it wrong is that he got it right RSVP here for the 8am Easter Service 36 Hours of Prayer link
