Tidings of Comfort and Joy

Loves Pure Light

Jesus brought us joy

Colossians 1:9b – …asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding.

Crisis prayer is easily generated but rarely sustained

Colossians 1:9a – And so, from the day we heard, we have not ceased to pray for you,

1. Pray consistently

• Intellectual Adjustment: Prayer is the main course and the rest of life is just vegetables

Colossians 1:10-11 – so as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God. May you be strengthened with all power, according to his glorious might, for all endurance and patience with joy,

2. Pray constantly

• Developmental Adjustment: Attach prayer to at least two current disciplines in your life

Colossians 1:12-14 - giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in light. He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

3. Pray thankfully

Psalm 77:7 – Will the Lord reject forever? Will he never show his favor again? Has his steadfast love forever ceased? Are his promises at an end for all time? Has God forgotten to be gracious? Has he in anger shut up his compassion?

• Circumstantial Adjustment: Your circumstances may or may not change
